Something to chew on that we got Mayo with the 10th pick. Mayo is a better and more versatile LB than Laurinaitis. The reason I post this is as the next few years go by ... Mayo will prove to have been a top 5 talent along with both Longs, Dorsey and Ellis.

Here's Fox Sports 2009 for the heck of it ... there are others of course.

I also notice there are a number of LB's at the top of next years draft.
Gerald McRath ... Southern Miss
Sean Lee ... Penn
Derry Beckwith ... LSU
Brian Cushing ... USC
Brandon Spikes ... Florida
Rey Maualuga ... USC

All projected 1st rounders.
There will be a run next year ... looks that way right now anyways.

Wow, this guy loves Ohio State huh?

Not that this even justifies saying but...there's no way Laurinaitis would ever be that high a pick. I'm a buckeye fan myself, and I see NO way he could ever be taken that high. If you think Gholston dissappears in games - watch the national championship and look for number 33. You'll find him...missing a ton of tackles and being in the wrong spot.

Talk about your **** drafts.

Rey going at 31? Yet Lil Animal goes 1?

F that. I love Animal and he wouldnt go number 1 to save his life.

Rey is twice the player that Lil' Animal is

Malauga will go top 15 next year, my bet is Lauranitis slips. He's only high now as he's a senior - he was falling down a lot of boards before he went back to school

Likelihood is we'll back at 25-32 and looking at OL or S maybe

I disagree with some of these comments, I think if Laurinitis is there, we would have picked him at #7. I think right now, he's a better ILB fit for us than Mayo, Mayo has 1 year experience on the inside. Don't get me wrong, I love the Mayo pick, but let's not degrade Laurinitis just because we picked Mayo.

Lb seems like that would be a need again next year, so that's nice there are so many rated that high. But BB will do whatever he wants and you can't predict it.

I covet Malauga more for 2009. Nice size for the Pats system at 6'3 250 and impressive athleticism. A guy who stood out on his team, unlike Rivers. And you gotta like the following quote.

“We have many guys on our team who we know by the sound of their voice but we know Rey by sound of his hits” — Pete Carroll on Rey Maualuga.

i agree with you there. i had heard about how laurinaitis was this great linebacker and was maybe going to declare and that the he would be a top 10 pick so i was interested to see what this guy could do. and you are 100% correct he was always out of position and missing tackles. i don't know if he just had a bad game or whatever but he did not look like top 10 talent to me. however i didnt see many buckeye games this year, so i can't say that he is terrible. maybe he just played terribly in the championship or maybe LSU was just so much better that they made him look foolish.

espn has us taking cushing because of his versatility as well
6'4" 245, not terrible

i'm hoping crable develops though

All OLB talk for 2009 should start with Cushings, if he runs well.

I saw him live as a sophomore against WSU and knew way back then, that he was a prototype future Patriot. Instincts off the charts. Very good against the run and decent in coverage. No false steps.

In the next year top 5 things I would like to see 5.) deepen the passion and hunger for football 4.) make a few more plays on gameday 3.) add 10-15 pounds of muscle, 2.) get much stronger below the waist and 1.) MOST IMPORTANT stay healthy.

I'm guessing if he ends up a Patriot we'll all be pissed after a crappy season (or we trade way up).

Laurinitis is a nice college player. Maualuga is a rare talent with NFL all-pro potential.

Ok it's decided. Maualuga a Patriot in '09! ;)
Yeah I know that sounds crazy, but how many thought Wilfork would last to pick #21! and right into our laps?
