Great clip of Mayock breaking down Mayo. This is only about 50,000 times more insightful than anything any of the ESPN bozos said over the weekend. Really makes me wish I had NFL network.

Mayock really is on a whole other level. Being a former player of his he also seems to have something of an "in" with Belichick too. Was clear they had talked about specific players.

He had him higher than everyone else... then everyone else starting moving Mayo up their boards, probably b/c Mayock is leagues ahead of all draft analysts.

Not to be a contrarian, but I like Kiper. I realize he's wrong most of the time, but you can tell he sincerely loves the draft, and I like that about him. True, Mayock is a much better analyst, and has better inside sources, but Kiper is like the King of the Draft Nerds, and there's some honor in that.

I agree, Mel's really a draft legend, an icon, that helped to make the NFL Draft what it is today. Sure, from an analysis perspective, he's had some doozers, Aqib Talib being the #1 corner is one of many, not to mention his famous backing of one Trent Dilfer something that haunted him for years. But give him credit, he was never afraid to mix it up and always stood by his analysis, whether right or wrong.

Isn't this an indication of why not to give him credit? Only a fool stands by their assumption, even after having been proven wrong. I'd much rather someone stand up, man up, and say "I f*cked up" than try to convince me why they were right no matter what reality says. Maybe that's just me. I don't mind having the courage of your conviction, but I respect the courage to admit your mistake a lot more.

I guess you can give it to Kiper for being a draft nerd and loving the draft.........but shouldn't he be right at least some of the time to be ESPN's top draft guy?

I mentioned this in another thread, but the NFLN broadcast was so much better than the ESPN one....the only thing i liked better about the ESPN one was the countdown clock when each team was up. Everytime NFLN was on a commercial i switched to ESPN and would usually hear Kiper say something like "He (insert any player) was drafted in the 2nd round and i had him going in the 5th or 6th round....i don't know what they were thinking; he had a 4.3 40 with a 70" wingspan" The guy was wrong all the time!

I grw up watching Kiper and like his Kiper's passion but Mayock is very impressive. I ended up watching more espn because of the side graphics and stats.

Why not do something GREAT for our (Patriot) nation and do a workup on Jetdell. I would have agreed with you on Kiper until about ten minutes ago when I read an interview with him. He was asked who's the most underated line back in the draft? Kiper said Jerod Mayo. He went on to say that there was virtualy no difference talent wise between Mayo and Kieth Rivers. And that Rivers is expected to be a top 15 pick so shouldn't Mayo. But the perception is that Mayo is a low 1st to high 2nd round talent. "what do you want?he (Mayo) is 242 lbs that can run.Had 140 tackles,8.5 for a loss . He's smart, productive, can play inside or out, can cover and is a has great charecter".
Who would have thunk it. Or even a blind squerrel finds a nut once in a while.

First of all, you can have no idea what I'm inferring. If I am speaking to you, I imply, you infer. If I infer something, it means you are speaking to me, and I read into what you are saying.

Secondly I do not confirm that I am in any way connected to Langley, other than via the beltway.

Okay and just so I don't have an ethics issue... I AM NOT connected to Langley, full stop. Believe it or not, leaving a possible inference out there is still bad juju in some quarters.

Couldn't agree more really. That "I was right and don't bother me with the facts" attitude has been responsible for all kinds of problems and embarrassments. In this case, it just proves that Mel's ego is as big (and as attractive) as his hair.

I mostly watched ESPN for the same types of reasons. I liked the layout on the TV screen better where I could see the scroll at the bottom of the current round along with team info. It was more viewer friendly. This was unfortuneate because I did think that NFLN was better at analyzing players and at discussing the draft without too many side stories. I always flipped back to the NFLN whenever the "reporters" came on to have a round table discussion on ESPN bleh
