Well then...

If nothing else ever proved they take the best player on their board this is it.

Thats gotta be the end of Cassel right?

Or maybe Cassel to Miami?

Does that mean the Matt Cassel experiment is over?

Ok, interesting, it is what it is I guess.

Future trade bait.

What the heck is that?

Brady better watch out, gisele...

According to mike lombardi on NFLN this is a future trade bait. He thinks they will put him out in the preseason and if he looks great they will entice some team to give up their 2nd or 1st down the yrs for him
Similar to what ron wolf used to do with the packers.

I does seem like a head scratcher but looks more like "future vision" pick.

Kevin O'Connell literally put himself on the map as a senior. Of all quarterbacks invited to the NFL Combine, he was the only one not listed as a potential pro prospect in preseason evaluations.

After working under the tutelage of former NFL quarterback and present Aztecs head coach, Chuck Long, teams now view O'Connell as one of the finer athletes at his position eligible for the 2008 draft.

O'Connell is a rarity in college sports, having served as team captain in each of his four seasons with the Aztecs. He is the first player in school history to lead the team in both passing and rushing in the same season (2007). He holds the school career record for yards rushing (1,312) and touchdowns rushing (19) by a quarterback.

A dual threat, O'Connell also showed off his strong arm for the Aztecs. He finished his career second in school history by completing 664-of-1,151 passes (57.69%) and gaining 9,001 yards in total offense. His 7,689 yards passing placed him third on the SDSU all-time record chart, while his 46 touchdown tosses rank fourth in Aztec annals.

Might as well have taken a kicker with that pick.

I bet a small part of this was to keep him away from the Jets.

:mad::mad::confused: This pick sucks ass. Im all for "In Bill We Trust", but WTFFFF!!!!!!!!

Trade bait? Yea sure, and Matt Cassel is going to be traded for a first round pick like all the dopes were saying last year and the year before. It was a wasted pick. If you're just throwing them away, you take someone with incredible upside like Manningham and see if he can produce. If Brady goes down, they're screwed. It doesn't matter if its O'Connell or Gutierrez or Cassel, or whoever. What a waste.

i know nothing about this guy, but could he be a project to convert to another position? (Something in the vein of Kerry Rhodes for the jets?)

Jamie Dukes on the NFLN is an idiot!!! Teams were lighting us up all year down the field???? These people have to be called on their bias.

I want Bryant or Okam and Silva or King with the next 2 picks.
