TWO PICKS IN THE NEXT 15 AND a 16-MAN BOARD
The team's board looks different, of course, but we have to have 2 players available on a 16 man board, if we really want them.
========================================
We have four picks (I ignore the longshots in the 6th and 7th): 69, 78, 94 and 129. I would use #129 to move up, but we could have four. We already have added an ILB, a dime back, and a kick returner. Let's look at other upgrades.

See below for 16 players who could be on our 3rd round board. We all have our favorites and some of these on our personal top 100. All were on Gosselin's except Goff.
===========================================
OFFENSE (7)

1) Quarterback - surely one of Cassell or Gutierrez might be eligible for upgrade
BOOTY

2) Running Back - Eckel
CHARLES, SMITH, HESTER

3) Offensive line: Yates or Britt
COLLINS, ZUTTAH

4) Tight End - Pollard
COTTAM, STEVENS

DEFENSE (9)

5) #4/#5 Corner Richardson/Spann/Webster/Sanders
GODFREY, KING, JACKSON

6) Safety - Andrews/Ventrone
SMITH, MORGAN, BRANCH

7) LINEBACKER - Alexander and open #9
CONNER, AVRIL, GOFF

CB Molden has a lot of the quick twitch ability that BB covets.

Day 2 has got to be better for Pats fans than Day 1.

We're doomed.

An ILB and a CB taken on Day 1. What a waste. If there's two positions that did not need help, it's ILB and CB.

Plus, we're stuck with an extra high third rounder we acquired, which we will have to fit under the cap.

Crappy day 1 fer sher.

We're doomed.

It will be a waste if the cb doesnt make it past training camp which is what I think will happen. Can you be sure that he will make it?

You know, contrary to popular belief, both BB and Pioli are not infallible.

I love them both, but they are not perfect, especially in round two picks.

HAHAHA what would lead you to believe Wheatley won't make it past camp? If he gets cut before camp, we will all agree... but I'd say there is about a 0% chance that happens.

The guy had a top performance at the combine in every test.
If you watch him he played extremely well against Big 12 competition while being productive. He was good in coverage, had a nose for the football and wasn't afraid to get into the action in run support.
He has met with Patriots' front office people and obviously passed all their evaluations.

What is up with all the Debbie Downers at this place today?

If we kept 2nd rounder Chad 'has shown nothing' Jackson around this long we will keep Wheately for sure at least in 2008

We aren't talking about 5th round picks here. 2nd round picks are true investments. We didn't take the guy because we are taking a shot in the dark. We have to have some sense of comfort that he has the ability to fit in here.

I honestly expected us to take him with the pick because I read that we had shown a lot of interest in a "little DB from Colorado" a few days ago (can't remember the source, sorry). It just stuck with me, I watched some footage on him, and became convinced that he will be a factor sooner rather than later.

I could be wrong, but I am certainly optimistic with what we have done. Both players inject some much needed athleticism while displaying leadership and intelligence in their respective college careers.

Patriots.com has pretty decent 3 minute HL vids of both of these rooks.

I'm no betting man, but I'd be willing to make a wager on that. I guarantee that barring injury Wheatley sees significant time in our sub packages this season.

Are you aware that you are arguing with a jets troll?

BB has drafted about 12 DBs in his 7 drafts and like 4 of those guys blew knees out in camp and never played in the NFL....Richardson is just the latest.

I would like to see this scenario, Avril either in a trade up or a trade for a future second rounder and a fourth this year.
I would like to see a punter in the fifth.
An offensive lineman in the next 2 rounds.
I would like a Small school big bodied tight end that i never heard of in the 6th that would make BB satisfied.
A trade for either Lito shepherd or Jason Taylor or why not both not giving up more than one third for each with a fifth back this year for compensation.
If all those things happen I will call this the best draft ever.
Hold the Mayo?
They can't hold the Mayo the Mayo is all over the field!

I basically agree but there is no 5th (Mayo trade) and I would not give up a future 2, but you could theoretically use the 4 to go get Avril if the Pats have Avril much much much higher than any other rush LB remaining. Gil Brandt likes Jeremy Thompson of Wake who did well in the 3-cone drill and was once quoted as saying "Doing your job is the most important thing," when talking about playing Navy's triple option, a BB specialty quote.

If the Pats somehow got rush LB, Zuttah, and Lito here that'd be awesome.
