What do the Pats Need Tomorrow?

Any thoughts, now that you have a LB and CB--OL depth and another LB and CB and perhaps a TE would be my thoughts, but what do I know, I'm not a Pats fan. You've also got a bunch of thirds, no, so should be able to pick up some decent players at at least a few of those spots.....

2. Maybe another cb but i could easily see a TE or OL

3. I see BB trading one away for a pick next year(a second rounder), could be one of those early ones as teams salivate on day two with players who they think are steals.

Blocking TE first and foremost. Unfortunately, it's a shallow pool. That, or a FA, or Britt goes on a diet.

Not real excited about a pass-rushing DE or OLB. AD will start for Colvin and it's time for Woods to put up or be gone, ala Banta-Cain.

Aside for any needs that BB/Peoli decide to shore up, I'm all for trying to move draft choices forward to next year. Getting tired of situations like last yr, where one of 8 or 9 draftees makes the team and the Jets pick through the rest, to see what they can learn.

I don't think there's any position we have to address strictly. Our draft board should still be very open to value and who we think are the best players left that could help our team.

Pass rushers for crying out loud! There was a great opprotunity in the second round to grab Groves and the Pats blew it. With three third round picks, I think they could have grabbed a cornerback. With that said, here is what the Pats should target:

DE/OLB - Cliff Avril
DE/OLB - Shawn Crable
DE/OLB - Marcus Howard

ILB - Jonathon Goff

RB - Steve Slaton
RB - Kevin Smith

CB - Charles Godfrey
CB - Antwan Molden
CB - Chevis Jackson

TE: Brad Cottam

42 TEs may be stretching it. I will settle for 32.

I do think we need to add at least one TE in the draft though. Both Thomas and Watson have injury concerns going into this season and Marcus Pollard is about 125 years old.

Exactly how did the Pats blow it? Groves was drafted ten picks before the Pats drafted in the second round. How do you know the Pats didn't try to trade up, but got no takers? Or that they did try to trade up to where the Jags did, but the Jags' offer was better but they didn't give the Bucs an opportunity to get a counter offer from the Pats?

To say the Pats blew it is a little unfair. Since none of us have access to what is going on in the war rooms, we don't know if the Pats had a realistic shot at all.

How many years in a row are we going to trade picks for next year's picks? I swear there has to be a couple picks that have been floating around and traded every single year for about 4 years now. When do we get the return on them?

Also, I like most of the names on THEARCHIVES list... Avril, Goff, Smith, and Cottam in particular.

Maybe they didn't think it was worth a third to trade up to get him. There are some concerns whether he can be a an every down OLB and obviously his heart issues raises concerns no matter how much he says that it isn't an issue.

I generally trust the Pats talent evaluations when it comes to the draft. They are far from perfect, but better than most.

I know its an important draft but if Goodell somehow finds another way or reason to screw the Patriots in 2009 it would not hurt to insure to have at least 7 selections next year,I still think its possible tomorrow
