I believe it is the rumor going around that the pats may take a d-lineman...

first off, let me say that after the top 2 dt's (ellis and dorsey) the rest suck

the pats know that one of them is sure to fall to them, and this smokescreen will bring on what the Pats' front office wants most, a trade down

clever, hope it works...we need more first 3 round picks

so we can take cason, groves, mayo, goff, johnson

why do we need so many picks?

this defense really needs a LB and some corners.

minimum they could get by with 3 players, even maybe 2

I've been a long, long time lurker on this site, but todays draft has brought me out of the shadows to ask a question of the very well versed Pats fans here. I've heard and read a lot about the #7 pick being a awkward spot for the Pats, considering our needs (when it comes to value). I know historically BB has been big on trading back and picking up additional picks. My question is this. With the jets throwing all that money in free agency this year and then being in draft position to pick up a real game changer. Does it make sence for the Pats to try and trade UP a pick or two to get a Gholston or Long and one up the jets in the process? Just looking for insite/opinions.

I think Long with his lesser bust potential they definately would have considered trading up to get, but it sounds like the Rams will take him at #2 so that's moot.

But I don't think the Jets factor in at all to what the Pats are trying to do. They Jets have certainly improved themselves and if they get any semblence of competent quarterback play they should win at least 8 games in my opinion.

I don't think the Pats draft for the Jets at all. I don't know that they draft for the Colts, and the Colts are a much greater threat right now than the Jets.

If they do trade up it's because they thought the Jets would take that player (Gholston presumably), not because they wanted to one-up the Jets. If they think whoever picks 61st is going to take their guy, then they'll try to trade up there too.

Rumor has it that the Pats are not that high on Gholston because he has disappeared at stretches and in big games. Chris Long might not get by pick 2. We'll see in about 10 minutes.

D definitely needs linebackers. The Pats currently have 14 DBs on the roster,
so I don't see this as an urgent need as the position HAS been addressed the last couple of drafts and those players are still developing.
Priority is on Linebacker first. A real good one, hopefully.
If a real good cb falls to NE in the 2nd or 3rd than that wouldn't bother me if they picked him.
Prefer to get a good blocking tight end, though.
