Saturday draft plan
Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
April 26, 2008 08:39 AM

The NFL Draft begins at 3 p.m. today, and the Patriots' top decision-makers will be gathered at Gillette Stadium. The team sends two officials to New York to submit the official choices.

Most New England media members covering the draft will be at Gillette Stadium as well. For those looking for a general guideline as to how things will unfold, here is a projection:

3 p.m. -- Draft begins
3:50 p.m. -- Approximate time of the No. 7 pick (owned by Patriots)
9:30 p.m. -- Approximate time of the No. 62 pick (owned by Patriots) At some point along the way, Patriots coach Bill Belichick will address the media in a press conference.

The plan will be to pass along updates along the way.

Do we have a 1, a 2 and two 3'S? Or is it different?

thanks, smart arse. Simply asking for the first three rounds.
the 3rd round starts tomorrow.
I can't believe you don't know that.

You should be ashamed of yourself. You sick, sick, man.:singing:

I'm just kidding fellas.

OK. Can we stop on the third round starts tomorrow? I am aware of that...thanks for enlightening me.:D

Seriously, how many pick do we have in the first three rounds...or, as many of you seem to be so funny, maybe you don't know?

Yes, they have the 7th overall selecting in the first round, 62nd overall in the second round, 69th overall in the 3rd round, 94th overall in the third round, one late pick in each of the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th rounds. So, that's 8 picks total.

can't start a thread....still too much of a rookie....didn't see if posted anywhere - if so, my bad:

ESPN's Michael Smith reports the Rams will take Chris Long at #2. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if we had 2 2's or 2 threes. thanks

Rivers would be my pick at 7.

I could easily see the Pats trading up to 5 with the Chiefs if they honestly do what someone that bad.

The Chiefs would still be able to get Brandon Albert or Clady at 7 or even Ryan, and they would get something for trading down.

5 is a good spot to trade down.

Ditka just ripped Matt Light. "They need help on the left side, no matter what they think of the guy they've got there now."

Apparently the Falcons are locked in on Ryan – as are the Raiders for McFadden, according to ESPN.

1) Jake Long
2) Chris Long
3) Matt Ryan
4) Darren McFadden

Dorsey falling to #5? That'd be something...

some of them just have to be lying.

So far i don't like this delayed start crap... If these guys get picked in this order and everyone takes the full 10 minutes, it's going to be very frustrating to watch this crap.

Why would the Dolphins announce their pick so early? Why not just keep it hush to keep the rest of the teams 'guessing'. Up until now, we had 0 idea of who the top player picked would be....and that had to affect teams 2-8. Why show the cards so soon?

not sure..

my guess would be that they wanted him in all the minicamps and stuff and wanted Long signed immediately.

Maybe to do that, they have to announce it publicly.

So if this happens, and the Chiefs go O-Line, do the Jets take Dorsey or Gholston?

Makes sense, Keegs. I am sure it is as windy in Naperville as it is on the North Shore right now...
I just don't understand how Parcells (who like BB doesn't like to let any info out of the house until the last required moment) would tip his hand days in advance. It gives everyone an advantage through the first batch of picks.

Have to agree...I like my drafts to start at noon, thank you very much. 3pm is just too late. I do understand how it helps the West Coasters, though.

This wait is killing me. I liked it better when the draft started at 11:00 in the morning, my time.
