Gosselin Final Mock

That is one of the worst mock drafts I have seen.
Yeah but it's historically the best one. We'll see if he still has it or not.

Seattle taking Henne!?

Wow, can't wait to see how well Gosselin performs this year.

Gosselin said:
The Bengals have an opening at end with the departure of Justin Smith in free agency. Harvey is a definite upgrade.

Derrick Harvey: better at DE than an opening.

Ellis? Seriously? Not a very flashy pick to us fans, that's for sure... but who knows, maybe Seymour is wearing down. And you definitely have to look at BB/Pioli's track record with drafting DL... which definitely makes you optimistic.

I read something about their weighing the top OT's available, and Williams was among the three names mentioned. He might be the best pass blocker in the draft, but he's not all that great of a run blocker, and Kansas City should be looking for someone who's a better run blocker, with Johnson in their backfield.

Some noteworthy picks:

The Rams take Chris Long: One of the best defensive players in the draft, and he could very well end up being the best player in this class when all is said and done. Carriker and Long on the same line would be a very strong combo.

Dorsey goes to Atlanta: Seems reasonable, and their new GM could very well be looking to build from the lines out, since it worked so well for the last team that employed him.

Oakland takes McFadden: They have bigger needs, but this is Al Davis we're talking about, and this has been their rumored pick for awhile. Some news paper from the area has actually been saying McFadden will be the pick.

Gholston to the Jets: I don't really like the idea of Kaczur and Light having to face Pace and Gholston twice a year, but hopefully the Patriots will add another pass rusher of their own, and upgrade the O-line.

The Patriots select Sedrick Ellis: Right about now I'm wondering if Alex Marvez was correct, when he said Ellis could slide down the board because of "undisclosed issues", and if those "issues" are what has been hinted...

Rivers goes to Kansas City at 17th overall: Could make sense for them, especially after they already selected their O-linemen. Maybe they can find Allen's replacement later in the draft?

Aqib Talib goes to the Eagles at 19th overall, despite having tested positive for marijuana three times? That's not even bringing up his footwork issues, and lapses.

Mayo's selected by the Steelers at 23rd: even though they have bigger needs, their front office has shown a lot of interest in LB prospects. They've been sniffing around Groves, too.

Dallas selects Felix Jones at 22: Seems everyone believes they're going to select Felix Jones. Am I the only person who thinks they're more likely to go another route? I could actually see them selecting Chris Johnson, before they would select Felix Jones, and I don't think Jerry suddenly has wet dreams over every Arkansas product in the draft. By the way, I noticed Michael Lombardi has Chris Johnson going to the Chargers in the first round.

the Jags take Groves at 26th overall: They've been interested in him, and I could see this actually being their pick. It would also go along with what Groves, and some others have said about his draft stock, and that recent procedure not dropping him out of the first round.

Flowers makes the first round, when the Cowboys select him at 28th. The funny thing about this, is that my brother (the Cowboys fan) has basically fallen in love with Brandon Flowers, and wants the Cowboys to select him. I like Flowers too, and while he doesn't really seem to meet Jerry's "wow" standards when looking at his size and timed speed, the Cowboys would be getting a very good CB.

Ellis? Seriously?
I'm fine with Ellis :

- He's a great value at #7.
- He's a badly needed backup for Wilfork.
- He can play DE for us although he's shorter than desired.
- He can play a decent amount in passing and short yardage downs.

Between rotating in to give the starters a break, passing downs and short yardage he'd get plenty of snaps. And, right now, God help us if Wilfork has a serious injury.

FWIW, there's been a rumor floating around that the Patriots might select a D-linemen early this year, and then try to unload Seymour via trade.

The Rams take Chris Long:
Dorsey goes to Atlanta:
On NFLN, Shefter was saying that the Rams are leaning to Long and while Atlanta wanted Dorsey, in thinking he'd be gone they've really bought into the idea of Ryan so Dorsey could drop to #4 and throw all mocks into chaos.

I'm fine with Ellis - this could almost be a placeholder pick, too, though, as we could well trade down for someone to take Ellis; on the "issues" do you know what's been hinted at ?

What was Ellis' wonderlic? Actually, does anybody have all his most updated workout numbers? What was the word on his performance at the SC Pro Day?

At their Pro Day he put up 36 reps (same as Wilfork), ran the forty in 5.05, recorded a 1.69 ten split, and a 30" vertical.

From what I can remember, I think everyone said Ellis looked good at his Pro Day. Read up on him, if you like:

Ellis is NOT a back-up for Wilfork. He's a 4-3 DT/3-4 DE. And undersized for the Patriots DE position.

I'm sorry, but your assessment is wrong. He doesn't provide great value from the simple standpoint that he doesn't fit into the Pats schemes unless they switch, totally, to the 4-3. And that's not happening.

Ellis is NOT a back-up for Wilfork.
Everything I've read says he has the strength and technique to play NT. I know he's lighter than Vince is and Ted was. But most people say he can play it. Go ahead and call me stupid, that's what you do, but I am not alone in my opinion.

This is a fine no-trade mock. The big controversy/question is which OL Kansas City will pick. It is NOT controversial to say that KC will draft an OL. Many have them drafting DTD Clady.

I think that we at #7, we are one of the most likely to trade, and therefore the most unpredictable to forecast. If we stay at 7, then Ellis is certainly much better value than any other player on the board. And dare I say that Ellis is as good a prospect than Seymour when we chose him.

285 lb backup for wilfork?

Comment: Ellis doesn't fit the 3-4 defensive scheme of the Patriots, but his arrival would give them the option of playing some 4-3. He's the best defensive player on the board, and coach Bill Belichick rarely passes up value.

Oh, that's better. All we have to do is get three different linebackers and play more 4-3 so we can use our #1 at one of the tackles.

6-1 285. too short for end, light for nose.

Can you say Klecko?

This is a fine no-trade mock.

Yep, which is why I don't care for no-trade mocks. :) It's like Reiss in the Globe today. He has the Pats taking Albert, but if you read his comments he makes it clear he really thinks they'll trade down for a defensive player and Darren McFadden will end up drafted #7. If that's who you actually think will be drafted, then putting Albert at #7 messes up your whole board, no?

The big controversy/question is which OL Kansas City will pick. It is NOT controversial to say that KC will draft an OL.

Agreed...the Williams pick clearly indicates Gosselin has heard something, mighty interesting.

I think he was more like 305 at his pro day, 36 reps bench. He's an every down DL. He seems like more of a J. Williams type of player. He is strong at the point of attack yet can still get after the QB.

I think the Pats trading down and not picking at 7 is what everyone has expected from day 1 and is clearly still the most likely scenario.

But if they do pick at 7, I think Ellis is the most likely pick. LB is a huge reach there. CB is an even bigger reach. That really leaves the two lines and Ellis is the top line prospect on the board at that spot. Albert would be my net guess as the pick at 7. Historically a G at 7 would be crazy but if you've been paying attention to the NFL offseasons the last few years, G are getting paid huge $ and that will make Mankins a very difficult player to resign after the 2009 season.

I just don't get the BPA mantra when the player doesn't fit the system, let alone when the position he more rationally projects value for is currently manned by the best young NT in the league. I've never understood this rationale, where is the value unless Wilfork is departing sooner than later. And why would he signed through 2009 and tag-able if there are any games actually being played in 2010 (potential lockout season to get that new CBA hammered out rather than play an uncapped season). If they were talking Dorsey it would be a similar scenario, but at least you could envision them having decided to part company with Seymour prior to 2009 due to lingering productivity concerns.

This is why I keep coming back to the rationale Lombardi and Mayock did - OG who is an immediate upgrade and projects to RT (where many think JLong will end up) and even possibly LT.
