RUMOR: Have the Pats traded down to #10?

Could your nephew have heard the guys on ESPN proposing this as a possible trade, and he thought they were actually announcing an official trade? That would seem more than possible, since the guys on ESPN were proposing this very trade scenario last night, and all the talking heads on ESPN are convinced the Patriots want to trade down.

It would seem intelligent to have some kind of potential trade agreement worked out, but I'm not sure the Patriots or Saints would officially agree to something like this prior to the draft. The Patriots trading down has been one of my favorite options though, so you wouldn't hear me complaining.

The front office favors being prepared for as much as possible, so I'm sure that they have a number of trades worked in advance out based on the way things shake out in the top 6.

Also, this all becomes moot if the Saints trade up to number 2.

Yeah I was thinking of this as well - might have just been watching ESPN First Take's mock draft where they proposed this idea shortly before this thread was made.

Yeah, like I said he called me at work all excited. Maybe he heard it wrong. That is why I posted it, to see if anyone had confirmation.

It certainly isn't a case of trying to make something up to get my jollies. That isn't really the type of thing I do to amuse myself, and I don't appreciate getting verbally assaulted. I usually lurk a lot more than post anyway.

Maybe this is just me, but I haven't really seen anyone "verbally assault you". I think we're just trying to figure out where the information might be coming from.

Didn't take long for the "idiot" bombs to start dropping in here.

They won't trade the pick until they're officially on the clock.

Who cares if Don Banks projects a trade in his mock draft. If this is your basis for this rumor your an idiot! You gonna start quoting DryHeat too. If he projects a trade you gonna call that a rumor too??????

The good news is that our friend certainly didn't accomplish anything except embarrassing himself.

I got a hold of him, finally getting back to him. He said it was teased on ESPN News as a trade, with details after the break. That is when he called me.

It was for an upcoming segment on "First Take", where they were talking to a NO reporter on a Mock Draft. The reporter said NO had an agreement with the Pats, which probably means it is verbal pending who is on the board. The NO guy said they were targeting Ellis or McKelvin, as they couldn't get up to get Dorsey.

Wow, how did I miss that? My apologies, that's certainly uncalled for.

This is total BS, there's no way it could happen before draft day.

Obviously this hasn't happened. On the 2 o'clock flash WEEI is reporting that NO is looking to trade their #10 pick packaged with OT Jamal Brown. I don't know enough about their situation to figure out what is up with that. Brown was a high first in 2004 they traded up to get, he was converted from RT to LT and named an all pro in 2006. But he has been plagued with knee injuries since college and now practices in braces. He was also arrested on a domestic abuse charge in NOLA in 2006 - don't know what came of it.

Listen, it was dumb for him to go ahead and state this. Next time do some research before you post a dumb statement. And, relax about being verbally assualted. What you posted and what you used as evidene i.e. using the Don Banks piece was dumb.

He was trying to confirm a rumor he heard. He didn't come on and say, "OMG guess what's happening!?!?"

I think you jumped on him a little prematurely.

"Have the Pats traded down to #10?"

That's not a question? I need to go back to school I guess.

No, it wasn't dumb to post something I heard with the title "RUMOR:" with a question mark at the end. I was looking for some sort of confirmation that someone else heard it.

I didn't post the Banks thing as "evidence". I posted it because when I was looking around to see if this had been reported elsewhere, I came across the Banks mock and it made think this was being floated as a smokescreen, since it was coming from different sources.

My source was my nephew, who heard it on ESPN. He got sucked it because they teased it and he thought it was done. When they got to the actual segment, on "First Take", it ended up being something thrown out there by a New Orleans reporter during a mock draft.

I certainly wasn't trying to mislead anyone, and I think the "RUMOR:" tag should have made this apparent to you.

I don't think it is dumb to post a rumor that is clearly identified as "RUMOR:", looking for confirmation. I think it is dumb to reply with something totally unhelpful, like calling someone a name.

Sounds like a perfect Patriot, bring him in.

Why is everyone jumping on this guy? The guy heard a rumor that was corroborated by Don Bank's mock draft. Its not like he's trying to break a story or anything, he's just bringing up a conversation topic. Christ

Hooray for internet tough guys!

1) The title of the thread ends in a question mark.

2) You called him a name.

Instead of getting all defensive I think you should just man up, admit to jumping to conclusions, and apologize to the guy. He was just asking a question.
