Michael Holley will announce on WEEI at 1:50 his player the he feels the Patriots are targeting.

I will tell you who it is and it's LB Jerod Mayo (Tennessee).
They will trade back to a comfortable spot and select Mayo.

Yeah & Jon Beason was the lock a year ago :singing:

But a week ago it was Sedrick Ellis. What gives? And how do we know there's a trade that can be made?

He's covering all the bases, just in case.

Man, I've been toying with swapping Mayo into my draft contest predictions for weeks, but this may talk me out of it!

Holley has been steered way, way wrong on a lot of his draft tips.

No, with Ellis he knows they are interested but he is "Convinced" they want Mayo.

It will be easy to trade out of #7 but the hard part is getting what you want to trade down. That's why I threw out the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here's your Top Players in no particular order:

1. Jake Long
2. Glenn Dorsey
3. Matt Ryan
4. Chris Long
5. Darren Mcfadden
6. Vernon Gholston
7. Sedrick Ellis
8. Ryan Clady
9. Branden Alberts
10. Keith Rivers
11. Top Corner

At #7 you will have the option to trade out but what do you want? The Chiefs look good because they could address O-Line and D-Line and would be willing to part with their 2nd round pick (I believe) and probably a 4th as well or a future 2009 pick. Why, because they want to shed some picks at the Top to pay now what would be 2 Top-10 picks.

It's not the trade down that's difficult it's how far and at what value to get you guy.

I think one sensational benefit of Mayo is that AD goes outside full time with Vrabel and hopefully another rookie, and to me that's by far his best spot. Look at the Super Bowl, he played his best game.

if thats the case....u guys know what this means?

it means BB is taking a chance with a 1st rounder, and he knows it

so we should not be surprised if Mayo turns out to be a bust, or not live up to his potential

So, what are you currently "hearing"? They still like Ellis and Rivers, or has Mayo shot up their board? I ask because this would seemingly go against your "The way I hear it" thread...

Last year it was either Beason or David Harris. Some had Beason as a Patriots lock for a week or more, and the night before the draft rumors started circulating from either "inside sources", or "sources close to the team", that NE was going to select Harris. We didn't really hear much from those sources in regard to Meriweather though, right?

Yeah, I'd like some clarification. Are you saying that at 1:30 Holley's going to announce the Patriots are targeting Mayo (what a douchetastic, egotistical move), or are you saying the Patriots are going to actively target Mayo in the first?

If it's the former, than I think we can guarantee that it's bad info. No way the lips in Foxboro are that loose.

No,

I'm saying at 1:50 your time if your in EST. He will be talking football the entire last hour of the show.

This is Michael Holley's opinion. I couldn't tell you if its based on what he's heard but I'm sure he will say.

I'm not suggesting the Patriots are targeting him, just giving out some info if you all want to listen to the show for actual football talk.

By the way they are in stealth mode this week so the information is very scarce. What happens is this: They all get together this week and hammer out a final draft board and strategy. They don't always agree on who the best player is at each position and this year LB will be one of those debated positions as far as talent, fit, and most importantly value. I know that was the position with the most varied opinions on who is the best value and fit. The biggest debate will be where/when to address the position. Most of the other positions are definitive across the board.

Mayo is a possibility but he's not my sources "preferred" option.

Whatever. I'll believe it when I see it, but right now sounds like a load of horse manure.

I too know that he's going to say Jerrod Mayo.

On another note, anyone see Dr Z's mock, he had the Patriots getting Dorsey at 7.

I'm of the sneaking suspicion that Beason would have been the second Patriots' pick if he had been there, and them trading out of that pick had more to do with him being off the board than anything else.

I agree, they gambled that he would be there at 28 and the Panthers hosed us. But in the end, it's turned into the 7th overall pick, so be it.

Yea but he had Gholston going #1.

Really,
How so? (Go against I mean?)

Mayo has not shot up their board. Nobody does that's media talk. They have such a good scouting department these players are already set in place and it just comes down to where the players best value falls. (And of course the unknowns: such as a surprise player falling or the opposite or trades).

Mayo was already on the list the question is where he ended up this week on the final board after all the Draft Strategy Meetings.

Yes, they still like Ellis and Rivers very much so. But, It all comes down to value. For instance, If they have let's say Rivers #1 and Groves #2 and Groves has better value at say #17 than Rivers at #7 then it will be Groves at #17 plus the picks.

Holley says Patriots want Jerod Mayo.

I hadn't heard anything about this guy until a couple weeks ago.
