We'd have to go Rivers, Ellis, Clady, or Albert. Or reach a little further with names like Harvey, Jenkins, DRC, Mayo, etc.

Worst case scenario... and also the most likely, IMO.

I'd hate, hate, HATE to be sitting at #7 trying to decide between Ellis, Rivers, and a bunch of guys that I think either don't make a lot of sense, or would be a reach.

Thanks for narrowing it down, you forgot or someone else some other time ....:)

I think I just threw up in my mouth reading that.

Will see a trade down before they draft Ellis, see post above why I think no Ellis

Why? It's a hell of a lot better than reaching for Rivers, Mayo, or Albert at #7. The Pats selected Seymour, when Terrell was the much sexier pick at #7. Looks like BB has been proven right. If Ellis is the pick, I wouldn't be upset. He has the ability to be a dominant big man on the DL. Finding playing time for him, will be the only difficulty.

Note how much criticism the Gholston pick got at #4. The guy disppears in big games, and doesn't put out effort all the time? Ouch.

You just forgot to mention that our DLine was VERY "upgradable" in 2000, which makes the Seymour pick pretty understandable. Now we have arguably the best DLine in the league, why spend our only top 10 pick in years on a backup? And please, don't tell me it would make sense because Seymour and Wilfork both have contract years in 09.

And about Gholston, the knocks on him are the same Merriman had when he came out, so...who knows.

The contract concerns aside, I'm more worried about the fact that Seymour seems to be wearing down. When's the last time he played without getting banged up and missing part of the year? You bring a talented guy like Sedrick Ellis in, and you have him learn the system. He can also upgrade your rush package on nickel and dime, pass defense packages. You can bring the pressure with just 4 down linemen and not sacrifice any quality on that front 4. Aside from that, you have him rotate in to keep the other DL fresh, again little dropoff in quality while giving the rookie a chance to sharpen his skills.

BTW notice that Brandan Albert hasn't been taken yet through pick 24. Gee, who said that a Guard shouldn't/wouldn't be considered until pick #20? Why that was me. OH and look, Jerod Mayo not until pick 29. Hmm didn't I say that you shouldn't look at an ILB till pick 20s? Wow, yes I did.

Oh, and let me clarify that I'm not targetting Ellis at #7, as this team has bigger needs. But if they stay at #7 and take Ellis, I wouldn't be upset because he would be the BPA and there are ways to use him.
Most likely the Pats should/would move down if the draft fell this way, hopefully getting the Saints 1st and 2nd round picks in the process.
