I know everybody likes to talk about the sexy picks, the playmakers and round one. But for those who are still watching the draft after round one, there's one "sleeper" in this draft who prior to the Combine and Senior Bowl was thought to be great. Now he's an afterthought, totally under the radar.

His name is Jordan Grimes. A Right Guard for Purdue. A gritty, mauler in a pass happy offense. I keep trying to dismiss him, but I have a gut feeling.
I think his footwork is underrated because he's viewed as a great drive blocker. Watching him, he just seems a strength mismatch for most defensive linemen. I have a sneaking feeling if he's hanging around on day 2, he's ours.

A quick check of the NFL Draft Scout top 500 as published by USAToday http://www.usatoday.com/sports/graphics/nfl_draft_08/flash.htm?gid=144&aid=714 did not find him. A check of NFL Draft Scout itself showed him ranked #69 with a down arrow for the 2008 OG list. At his Pro-Day he ran a 5.82 40 and only put up 21 reps at 225 - not a great showing for a guy getting by on strength and nastiness. I think he can go straight to his new job as an Engineer in the boiler plant.

If anything he will be a UDFA...does NOT sound like he will be drafted

LOL. Great line. I love it. But watch this guy on film and he engulfs defenders. Slow? Yeah, but quick off the ball. Plus 10 yards is a better indicator for linemen than is the forty. Not on anybody's list? Typical Patriots draft pick.

Why would we need an Original Gangsta on this team?

I wouldn't argue that. There's a better chance he goes undrafted than he does. But this guy really looks the part of a Patriots linemen. Could happen.

His 10 split was over 2 seconds, Mankins ran 1.8-ish, that's the difference between leading a runner and picking him up after the Linebacker came through.
