The Rams have reportedly exchanged trade ideas with the Jets, who hold the No. 6 overall pick in the draft.

New York may want to get in front of Atlanta to secure Matt Ryan. St. Louis is open for business and in great position to make a move. The Rams could also try to sign Glenn Dorsey before Saturday. With Jake Long out of the picture, ESPN's John Clayton says Dorsey is the top player on their board.

Interesting.

I’m kind of torn on whether or not I’d like the Jets to take Ryan.

A) Jets take Ryan, bumps another elite defensive player down.
B) Jets take Ryan, becomes the turnaround franchise QB helping the Jets once again contend.

Ideally, they take Ryan - he turns out to be a bust and we get our stud defensive player.

The Jets would have to give up their high 2nd round pick to move up to #2... Wow that's gambling quite a bit that Ryan will turn into a stud. Then again the Jets have done this kind of thing before. See Dewayne Robertson and Revis. I'm not sure what the Jets' GM is thinking. Guess he doesn't share BB's views on getting VALUE for your pick. Then again perhaps Ratgina is pushing for this because it might save his job for a couple of more years while the young QB develops.

This might be all true but I would be more suspicious that its nothing but a story being peddled by the Rams to put the heat on Atlanta and get them to pony up some of their bazillion of draft picks. Atlanta has the ammo to up the Jets or anybody else this year and I could see the Rams salivating for some of those picks.

Great! I HOPE the JESTS move up and pick higher. Let them waste 2nd round draft choice and spend more guaranteed dollars to sign a # 2 slot or # 4 slot pick (instead of just waiting at 6 for one of the top 7 elite players falling down to them). If it is Ryan they are targeting - he will have growing pains just like every other rookie QB which means Pats will still dominate the Jests at least for the next 2 years while Ryan learns the game.

Doesnt make sense to me - they signed veteran talent on the downsides of their career (Fanica, Pace, Kris Jenkins -the DT from Carolina) to compete NOW - so why would they then draft a rookie QB high in the draft ? I would think to complement the veteren talent they would want a high impact player to play and contribute NOW. I think they will take McFadden if Raiders pass on him.

100% smokescreen. Guaranteed or double your money back.

I agree...but who are they trying to bamboozle? Are there teams they think will trade up to #6 to grab McFadden? I'm not so sure.

The Jest have been selling McFadden like he's the second coming - poor kid - they are trying so hard to trade out of #6. I smell salary cap. :D

Same here! In my mocks they're looking at either McFadden or Ryan and none too happy about it. Ryan might actually be the smart pick, but the way they've loaded up on expensive, aging FAs (and the tenuous nature of their jobs) says "win now" to me.

I think they want to make sure Ryan falls to them.

I don't believe the Jets really do have interest in Matt Ryan, I think it's a ploy and the real guy they want is Darren McFadden. They already sent down Mangini's boy Teddy Atlas to check him out. They need a playmaker on offense and McFadden is that guy. They already have 2 QB's that they pay alot of money too. They could go QB in Round 2, but I doubt it. I still think their gonna stick with Pennington with the new and improved OL and a playmaker as a RB like McFadden would really help out that offense. And, the Jets HAVE to win now, and Ryan doesn't do it for them. Pennington is a safe QB and would be pretty good with that OL and McFadden.

Ah, of course. The old "don't bother trading with KC to grab Ryan, us sweet little Jets would never, ever draft your QB" gambit.

Well, I'm not sure what the Jets are thinking internally, but with the Chiefs trading Allen today, there's a distinct possibility that both Ryan & McFadden will be there at #6. If St Louis goes with Long, then Atlanta could take Dorsey. That could create a scenario where the Raiders go Ghoslton, the Chiefs go OL, and McFadden & Ryan are sitting there at #6. At the very least, one of the two could be there. If they trade, then they have to be convinced that Atlanta is taking Ryan, and the Raiders McFadden. Personally, I don't see McFadden going before the Jets at #6. So if it's McFadden they want, there's no need for them to trade up. The Raiders will take C Long or Gholston at #4 if Ryan goes to Atlanta.

I think Ryan could still be available to the Jets at #6

There is far from certainty that Atlanta takes Ryan because if they don't, Ryan will definately slip to AT LEAST #6 Oakland will not,KC will go defense - Its a gamble for them either way.

Atlanta currently has 4 second rounders so a decent QB will still be there - Brohm,Flacco or Brennan so taking Ryan is not definate for them.

Don't be torn think about for a second. BB is good at game planning against young QBs. More importantly though this kid is local to us and I imagine that the Patriots know a good deal about him and anything we don't know could probably be attained by the right people at BC.

I figure with the moves the Jets have made they are figuring that they need to win this year. So taking a QB would not be a step in that direction. MccFadden is. So I would say the intrest there is probably real.

I would not discount to heavily the Jets trading up to two. The Rams are conflicted on who to take. Managment wants Long, coaches want Dorsey. If they trade down to 6 they can kill two birds right there. Managment can still likely get Long or Gholston while allowing Dorsey to go to Atlanta.

Assuming the Saints are simply unwilling to part with there second in order to hold onto the possiblity of getting Shockey, then the Jets first and third is a much better package for the Rams to take.

That's about how I see it. Rams move back one and get the player they want (cheaper) plus a pick. Atlanta gives up a mid- or late-rounder for the privelege of moving up one spot to ensure getting Ryan. If the Rams don't get too greedy and demand a high pick, if I was Atlanta I'd give up a fifth or sixth to do that.
