ALLEN TO VIKES A DONE DEAL
Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2008, 10:42 p.m.

What do Carl Eller and Jared Allen have in common?

Okay, what else do they have in common? As of Wednesday, both will have been members of the Minnesota Vikings.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Vikings have reached a contract agreement with defensive end Jared Allen and a trade agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The deal will be finalized on Wednesday.

Allen was the NFL’s sack leader in 2007, despite missing two games due to a suspension. His first game was against the Vikings, and his performance was downright dominant.

so what would the Vikings give them for Allen?

A first and something else?

Wow, KC with 2 picks in the 1st becomes interesting (assuming they got Min to give their 1st and 2nd as predicted)...I wonder how that affects their #5 choice (does it give them the freedom to grab a Clady and go for someone else later, or vice versa where there can draft a "skill" player at #5 like Ellis, Gholston, etc and still pick up a contributing #1 OL later on?

I'd say it's close to a lock the Chiefs are either going Oline (Otah / Clady / the guard from Vanderbilt that I can't remember right now) with the first pick and Dline with the second pick (Merling) or Ryan with the first pick if he's there, and Oline with the 2nd pick. Either way, I the only way it really impacts the Pats draft is if they take one of Ellis or Long with their pick.

Now it would make sense to me if the Chiefs did take Long with their first pick if he's there. I'm expecting them to get Dorsey, Long, Gholston, or Ellis.

Why the hell not?
they need someone to take the place of Allen anywho.

They can go oline with the Vikings 1st rounder or even with the other pick they are getting out of the deal.

True but Long has to look appealing at this spot if the Rams don't take him to compliment Carriker on the inside...OL can come at the Vikings pick and they are in much better position...strange but it should save them $ and Long doesn't come with the booze baggage Allen does...

Edited to add ESPN is attributing this "breaking news" to Clayton as of now :D

VIKES GIVE UP THREE 2008 PICKS FOR ALLEN
Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2008, 11:17 p.m.

Holy crap.

The Vikings, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, surrendered their first-round pick in the 2008 draft and both third-round selections for Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen.

The Chiefs will now add the No. 17, No. 73, and No. 82 overall selections to the No. 5, No. 35, and No. 66 picks, giving them six selections among the first 100 picks.

wow that's a lot of crap for the Chiefs.

If Long falls they are taking him. If Gholston falls, they are taking him....

good for the Chiefs.

Well they're guaranteed to get one of Dorsey/Ellis/Long/Gholston or whatever Olineman of their choice. I don't think they're worried. They could trade down a few spots and still get what they need, as McFadden and Ryan will almost assuredly go top 6.

Damn was hoping the Pats, with the way the draft is going to look like in my opinion

j long - Miami
G Dorsey- St Louis
Ryan- Atl
Gholston - Oak

might have had a chance at Long, but now, it looks like kc will be interested in him ..

The more I think about it, Long would fit nice with us, since he played for Al Groh..

What the hell were the Vikings smoking when they did this? Whatever it was, they'd better keep it away from Allen, or he'll be gone for a year.

this means definitively good bye to gholston?

If Allen stays on the field for the Vikes, they are going to kill every other QB in the NFC North. Detroit has no O-line, Green Bay effectively has a rookie QB, and Chicago has both.

Well, the Pats could always trade with Oakland again. . . . :)

Yup. After Long was signed by the Dolphins I think the Chiefs made it clear they don't want OL at #5. They can take Gholston or Long to replace Allen, then at 17 have their pick of either Albert, Otah, Clady or whoever falls. Great deal for the Cheifs.

Yeah, it was a great deal for the chefs.

Who are they going to draft though... that is the question.

Peterdink has screwed up PLENTY of draft picks by getting the wrong guy.

Who knows...
