DL Kenny Smith signed

The Patriots signed veteran free-agent DL Kenny Smith today.

Smith was also with the Patriots in 2007 training camp, but was cut before the season began. Once again, he faces long odds to earn a roster spot. The 6-foot-4, 303-pound Smith adds depth at the end spot, where he lined up last summer in training camp.

Here is a biography from the Patriots on Smith.

The team also finalized the signing of punter Scott Player.

I assume this doesn't necessarily mean no Darrion Scott, who I would guess has more of a chance to make the team. No big deal either way.

Is Kenny a different guy than Le Kevin? They play the same position, so its getting confusing.

Quite different...Kenny Smith will ve 31 this year..LeKevin Smith 26....Kenny went to Alabama, LeKevin Nebraska...Kenny is 6'4" 303 LeKevin is 5'3" 316...

I think he is as wide as he is tall!!!!

this tells me scott wont be signed they tried to sign scott he wouldnt bite and its smith no biggie

Who really cares?
What about Shaun Alexander?

1) Who really cares?

2) What about Shaun Alexander?

1) I do.

2) This may just be a shot in the dark, but have you tried the 31-post (at the time) "Shaun Alexander" thread?

I don't see why this retread was signed instead of Darrion Scott, unless Scott is waiting for more doh-ray-me. Too bad, because he would be an excellent 4th DE, behind Warren, $eymour and Jarvis.

I hope the recent signings of the has-beens Pollard and Smith doesn't preclude the FO from signing as many UDFAs as possible, this year more than usual due to the relative paucity of draft picks.
