All of these threads :Ok, I'm pretty high on him. Although, i have not heard much talk about him. It's all DRC this and DRC that.. What do you think the chances are that we grab him at all? I think he has great potential in the Pats system. I like McKelvin as well but if it were up to me I'd go with Cason. Any thoughts?

mention Cason. He's one of the most popular players on this board if we end up with a mid to low #1. How have you not heard much about him ?
I think Cason is going to be a great player while the other CBs this year I would say are a toss up whether they will make any major impact in the NFL.
I think Cason has the talent to be a future all-pro at CB - I just like his skills and he is the best in this draft IMO
There's a reason Cason is rated as a second round pick. He lacks the high end athleticism of the top 4 corners discussed: McKelvin, DRC, Jenkins, and Talib. However Cason could make for a nice system CB, which could hide his less than great speed.
You're right. The Patriots, though, have a fairly consistent draft history with DBs -- the classic measurables, especially pure speed, aren't high on their list of criteria. (Check out Brandon Meriweather's measurables and prepare to shudder!) Cason has exactly the skill profile that the Patriots target.
Cason is an interesting prospect but he's not expected to go until the late first round or later - there's not a lot of media attention on those kinds of players.I'm talking about the media, seldom do they refer to Cason. NFL Network or Mel Kiper for that matter (As dumb as he is).
The one thing is that he is the best football player of those guys. Talib IMO is not great imo and is way behind the likes of Godfrey, Flowers, and Cason. Jordy Nelson just made him look stupid. Those 3 (Godfrey, Flowers, Cason) and McKelvin are the three first-day picks at CB that I think will work. DRC has a great name and measurables, Jenkins is overrated. There's a reason Cason is rated as a second round pick. Remember folks, just because the posters on THIS BOARD value Cason highly, doesn't mean that the rest of the league does. If we can get him in round 2, I'll be fine with that because I think he could make a good system CB for the Pats, but not because I think he is the fastest or most athletic CB out there, clearly he is NOT.

well, lets see....
Cason is not the fastest
Cason is not the strongest,
Cason is not the smartest
Cason is not the biggest
Cason is not the most athletic....
Sounds a lot like the scouting report on Asante Samuel.
A few years ago there was a player that was not on anyone's first round list a few weeks before the draft. And then he started to get noticed and just before the draft he began to move up on a lot of lists and he was picked in the first round, middle of the round, by the Cowboys.
That was DeMarcus Ware.
Cason, IMO, is the same type of player. One that was not on anyone's first round list and not even one of the top two or three mentioned cornerbacks.
I believe now, from a lot of study, that he IS the best cornnerback in the draft and one that many say is ready to step right in and contribute from the get go.
IMO he wont last beyond the first round and I still say that he should be the Pats first round selection.
He will pay dividends for them in the same way that Ware has produced dividends for the Cowboys.
Umm your example doesn't work for one HUGE reason. Demarcus Ware is an athletic freak of nature.
"Ware is considered one of the most athletic defensive players in this draft and uses his superior speed and quickness to get to the quarterback."
"Ware had an impressive showing at the NFL combine with a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash and he has jumped as high as 38 inches. Ware weighed 198 pounds coming out of high school. He grew into a 251-pounder at Troy."
Yeah a 4.6 40 in a 250 lb, QB-destroying package. The Cowboys LOVED his measureables and amazing athleticism, make no mistake about it.
In short, you used exactly the WRONG example to compare with Cason. I understand that Cason is your binky, but next time use a better example, for instance Asante Samuel, who ran only a 4.51 40 at the combine, and received little to no hype.
I wasn't attempting to compare the relative abilities of the two players. What I was attempting to show is how both Ware and Cason are getting some last minute look sees, by many of the so called experts, and like Ware, Cason is moving up the charts quickly.
Its like when you go to the race track and you lunderstand how the betting works and you watch the tote board a lot. And, at the last moment a ton of money gets thrown onto a certain horse.... usually it's because someone knows something and kept the odds up as high as he can before throwing his money on the horse. And, in most cases when there is late money like that, the horse wins.
Cason, IMO, will be the kind of player that will pay off right away and the Pats really need help at that position.
