Jets officials have met with RB Darren McFadden three times in the past month, including a night on the town.
It's all part of their background checking and information collecting, and the Jets appear to have assuaged doubts about any character issues. Says their director of college scouting: "We've done our homework. If that's the pick we choose to make, we will be comfortable with that decision."

The New York Daily News article they're linking to:

There was an instance where some of us pretty much knew the Jags were going to select Reggie Nelson. One of the things that cemented it for me was their taking him out on the town, and treating him almost like a recruit. It kind of seems like the Jets have a similar thing going with McFadden.

The Daily News article says they're still hoping Chris Long falls down to them at 6. So they would have a tough decision to make if that were the case.

Don't count out the possibility of the Jets trading up to Atlanta or Oakland's spot to grab McFadden if the price/trade was right

This is good news as far as Im concerned. Similar to Miami drafting Ronnie Brown 2nd overall just a couple of years ago. Big name skill position player that looks great all dressed up out on the town. Theyre opening up their new stadium soon, so they really need a marquee name to put up in lights. NE's not the least bit interested in him, so Id rather see the Jets take someone off the board who's not on our board, then someone like say, Vernon Gholston, who can actually help our team.

They don't have a 3rd round pick. And I don't think they'd give up their #2.

I think if McFadden is on the board at 6 he's a lock for the Jets.

That is correct. That lack of a 3rd rounder really cripples the Jets ability to move up in this draft without paying too much. I think that's why they have been shopping Dewanye Robertson and hoping to fish a 3rd round pick out of it. If that happens, they might be able to entice a trade with the Raiders for the #4 overall to take McFadden.

The Jets and Bengals agreed to swap Robertson for a 4 and 5 but Robertson refused to redo his deal so it fell through.

i think oakland will take him.

This is unprecedented! A team with a top 6 pick heavilly scouting a guy who could be available at #6!

Next thing you're gonna tell me the Patriots have met with him too!

This smacks of smokescreen, the Jest have spent a lot of money in Free Agency and that #6 pick is going to take another big chunk of salary cap room - it's not unlikely they are trying to convince the other 31 that McFadden is the man so someone will offer a trade.

I agree but i hope they draft McFadden since i can't imagine the Pats ever drafting him at 7.

Let them pick someone we don't want. And someone who i think is overrated.
Not that it means anything what i think, but yeah.

Ok yeah, im done with this post. My brain has nothing more to add.

If that's true, then the Jets have zero ability to move up without giving their 2nd round pick, which would not make sense given the number of needs their team has.

If Ryan is there at #6, the Jets should really consider taking him.

Right. Unless they can magically convince Robertson to redo his deal before Saturday, which seems unlikely. It does however give them incentive to move down. Which means I'm worried that they could get a deal down for McFadden or Matt Ryan, a deal the Pats were hoping for. Remember, the Jets, moreso than the Pats, should be able to convince trade partners not only that there are other teams who are interested in those players, but the Jets themselves are logical destinations for McFadden and Ryan.

If the Jets deal down, I'm fine with that. Because a team targeting McFadden or Ryan are not targeting a player the Pats want. This means logically that a player they DO want will be forced down, possiby one of Chris Long or Gholston.

I agree, but too many straight lines!
