i hear clady is pretty slow. besides, you NEVER take a tackle that high in the draft. too many OTs drafted in the top 10 that have ended up as busts - mandarich, robert gallery, d' brickshaw ferguson, etc. They have to take a corner with the 7th unless they swing a deal for Lito Sheppard in which case they can take a guy like Keith Rivers.

They seem to be doing this generically without regard to the Pats' scheme...

Clady is lighter on his feet than Long, he's a better athlete for the LT position. I just note Reiss indicated scouts weren't as high on Clady's mental gifts, which has dropped him off my board. I have no issue with ranking Ellis above Dorsey, he's more durable and has been equally productive.

Orlando Pace, Jonathan Ogden, Walters in Seattle all say hello - and the jury is still out on Ferguson. CB in the top ten would be overdrafting IMHO.

Welcome back, Mr. Box!

Just as I am happy to see the funny Jack in the Box commercials return to TV here in the Mid-Atlantic, so too am I glad to see the insightful Mr. Box return to this here board, esp. with only 7 days remaining until the draft.

Take your shoes off, and stay awhile.

P.S.: Do you think that Keith Rivers is a 1st-round-quality WILB for the NEP?

Edit: Nevermind; I just saw your post re: Rivers in the "8 Patriots Draft Picks..." thread. Maybe he wanted to drop weight so that he could perform better in the speed/agility tests. Still, losing almost 10 lbs. in barely over one month is a bit disconcerting. I wonder how many 225s he could've benched at 232; he did 24 at the combine at 241.

i have heard that rivers is exceptionally gifted mentally on the football field, and also that his insticts are really good, so he has the intangibles...

the questions are his size, and his strenght, the physical aspects of his game

The rankings are done by the PFW crew. Judging by PFW in Progress, they have little if any inside information from the Pats.

Besides, Tom Casale has been on Clady's bandwagon since early February.

Well, we're not trading up for Jake Long, so if we want an OL, we are sitting well at #7, although both Long and Clady could be gone. If that happens, we would "settle" for one of the DL's (Dorsey, Long, Gholston, Ellis) or perhaps pick McFadden. One of the seven has to be available.

If it's not Long or Gholston, IMO, I say find a willing sucker, er, trade partner and get out of that slot. :)

Thankee kindly sir, glad to be back.

I'd take a chance on Rivers in the mid-first, but his weight changes raised a caution flag and has me leaning toward Mayo who put up similar measurables at weight closer to NE LB standard.

Never take an OT that early?

OT taken in the top 10 in the last 15 years: Joe Thomas, Bryant Mckinnie, Orlando Pace, Walter Jones, Jonathan Ogden, Willie Roaf, Tony Boselli, Willie Anderson, Kyle Turley, Chris Samuels, Leonard Davis, D'Brick, Robert Gallery, Mike Williams, Jordan Gross, Levi Brown.

We have a few busts: Gallery, Williams, D'brick(?)
And some HOF's: Ogden, Pace, Jones, Roaf, Bosseli
The rest have all had some good years at least.

You can certainly find scouts that agree with those ratings. What really matters is how the Patriots evaluate/rate those players.

I'm guessing that the one puts Clady on top because he projects to LT. It's a little wrong-headed, but justifiable.

And allow me to add my re-welcoming to BoR. It's about time.

Thankee! Something was about time (as long as it's not the seasonal standard withdrawn in the Fall).

Yes, welcome back, Big Man! :p

You were sorely (and sadly) missed.
