If Michigan's Jake Long doesn't want the honor of becoming the first offensive lineman selected first overall in 11 years, look for Parcells to shift his attention quickly to a defensive player.

Ohio State's Vernon Gholston is the best pass rusher in this draft – and those 1986 Giants taught Parcells the value of a pass rush on Sunday afternoons in the fall.

So give Gholston to the Dolphins in the second mock draft offering from The Dallas Morning News. The first one last weekend was based on best available player. This one places a greater emphasis on team need.
1. Miami Vernon Gholston
2. St Louis Jake Long
3. Atlanta Glenn Dorsey
4. Oakland Chris Long
5. KC Ryan Clady
6. NYJ Darren McFadden
7. NE Leodis McKelvin

Let's hope he's wrong. Luckily he has another week to get his s**t together.

I think Oakland takes McFadden there not Long. I think he's way off on NE but who am I to say. I think Ellis or Rivers goes at #7 if we can't trade down.

we already know he is wrong...the question is is he right too.

He put out two mocks so one is wrong....could the other be right and which one?

Does the mock stand for Mockery? because thats what the mock drafts have become.

Let's hope he's wrong. Luckily he has another week to get his s**t together.

Let's hope his mocks run this way:

Mock #1 -- BPA
Mock #2 -- Team needs
Final Mock -- Inside scoop

If he pencil's in McKelvin again, we won't know if he's doing so to fill an obvious need with his #1 ranked CB... or is Gosselin hearing rumblings that he is indeed the pick. Will be interesting...

This would be my exact top 6 as well, as much as I don't like it... although I really have no clue what the Pats would do in this situation, and don't think anybody does.

i think they would try to trade the pick to someone who wants ryan.

Someone that wants to leapfrog Baltimore for Ryan or Ellis.

Does Carolina have us on speed dial? Only 10 minutes to get this deal done.

As much as everyone wants to say that, it's hard to find trading partners, particularly in the top 10... so you better be prepared with who you're going to take if the situation arises (and I'm sure the Pats front office is).

That depends on how greedy you are. If the Pats are willing to accept, say, only a fifth to drop down three spots, odds are they'll find someone willing to deal.

I agree. If Ryan is on the board we should be able to move down. Even if it's just a 4 to move down a few spots, it would be an early 4. That gives us a late 2/early 3 and late 3/early 4 and it should be pretty easy to move up in those rounds if necessary.

I agree with your agreement

Also, this one is a lot better than his first. 3rd time's a charm.

We get more than a 4th..

Using the new or old draft value chart going around, we should be able to get the teams late 2nd early3rd..

New Chart

7th pick = 1570, 12th pick = 1275.. Difference is late 2nd early 3rd..

Old Chart

7th pick = 1500, 12th pick = 1200..

But teams just won't pay that anymore... I'd almost PAY a 5th to move from 7th to 10th. We'd probably get the same guy and pay him much less.

Says who?? Considering this is considered a deep draft with no TOP pick, trades should happen..
Just a few years ago, Cleveland gave up a high SECOND to move up ONE spot to grab Winslow..

You have teams like Cinn and New Orleans who covert a DT.. plus if Ryan falls, you'll have 3 more teams clawing to move up and grab him (Carolina, Chicago & baltimore)..

I think if Ryan is on the board -- given Ravens are sitting at #8 -- the Pats could probably drop back to low-teens and get a teams second. At worst, I'd think they could get their 3rd and swap 2nds.

When you are dealing picks before the draft, it's all about the value of the pick.

When the bullets are flying and teams are on the clock, it's all about the team's value of the player they want, not the value of the pick.

I'd be surprised if the Pats took McKelvin at #7. I could stomach it a lot more if they moved down to #10 first. If McKelvin is taken at #7, BB must believe that he is the next Deion Sanders.

If Ryan is there, Baltimore may give us a 5th (or even a 4th) for us to move to #8 with no risk whatsoever to us.

I think we can extort at least a 3rd round pick out of Baltimore if we posture that other teams below are looking to leapfrog the Ravens for Ryan. Heck it will probably even be true.

That's a nice scenario for the Pats.
Both Ellis and Ryan are available, so they have two players to float in trades.
Opens up more opportunities.
