"I'm preparing to be a football player," said Meriweather, who got a jump-start on offseason conditioning by training with fellow University of Miami football alums Santana Moss of the Washington Redskins, Reggie Wayne of the Indianapolis Colts, and Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens, among others, on the Miami campus.

"I'm not trying to go in thinking whether I'm a safety or a corner or whether I'm a kicker or quarterback. I'm just going in to be an athlete. Whatever my team needs, I'll do."

Asked if he could replace Samuel or Gay, Meriweather toed the company line - whatever is in the best interest of the team.

"I feel like this is a great organization, and everything they do is for the best of the team, so whatever they're going to do is going to be strictly up to Coach Bill [Belichick], so if you really want that question answered, you have to ask Bill."

There is a lot more to the article. In Gasper's opinion, Meriweather will have a large role in NE's secondary this season, and he believes that Brandon will see most of his time at Safety. There are additional quotes from Meriweather, and coach Belichick.

I love that Brandon has been working with Ed Reed (and others) this offseason. One thing some fans might not realize, is that Ed is very good at film study, and I'm sure that's one of the things they went over.

Edit: I forgot to add that Brandon's been doing a lot of jugs machines, and other drills to work on his hands this offseason.

Sounds like a Patriot to me!

Love love love love this kid. I expect to see alot more Meriweather jerseys around in the next few years, he is going to be a superstar.

There's not a single part of anything he said that I do not like :D

from the sounds of things, hes turning into a good kid, and an excellent football player

Meriweather deserves to be made fun of for the poor hands he displayed last season, but it's a little unfair to rag on him too much about the Super Bowl drop. That was hardly a routine play. It would've been spectacular-ish had he come down with it. That's a poor example, especially compared to the several gimmes he had clang off his hands during the regular season.

Bernie K said it best DB's are DB's for one reason, no hands
If they could catch they'd be recievers

Good idea. You work, let the coach think.

Starting to work on things early is music to my ears.

Sounds like he's got a good mindset. Didn't he fall in the draft because of 'character issues'? Once again, Belichick reads character better than the rest of the league, apparently.

If he makes half the Jugs machine "hands" jump that David Givens did from year 1 to year 2 we'll have a Pro-Bowler! Or at least a half-decent safety-erback.

my money is on meriweather to be breakout player of 2008/9, everything is pointing to all-pro pro bowl and potential Defensive player of the year

Thinking about Reed teaching a young Meriweather film study is a great feeling.

It's funny, I thought this kid was a thug. Sounds to me like he works his ass off, and knows what to say.

So I guess the Patriots aren't full of a bunch of thugs?

Well, before you become Brandon's biggest fan, you might want to get his name right:

It's Meriweather, not Merriweather. ;)

Believe me, you're not the first... :D

I hope so, but I think he's still a few years away from that.

While he's at it he will cure cancer and bring about an end to hunger. :singing:

Disagree. All this BS i've read about him looking lost makes absolutely no sense to me. He was in position to make a few INTs, he just dropped them. He was also inside the rotation a lot. That doesn't seem like a guy who is lost to me. In fact, it sounds like Samuel in his rookie year.

I would say its a safe bet that just about every team is saying this about their #1 pick from each the last 3 years. I mean, when you draft in the top 32, you expect you are going to pick a pro bowler. Now for the DPOY, you've jumped the gun a bit. Maybe we should start with him starting.
