Whoops...

Live on the NFL network Jeff Ireland was talking about the first pick and he said something along the lines of...

"...he is going to be a pillar of our defense for the next however many years."

A reporter called him out on it and said "Defense?? Did you say Defense??" He turned beat red and said "...or Offense." (DOH!!)

They have the number 1 pick and no one wants to trade. Why would they need to be deceptive about where they are going when they are admitting to negotiating with a number of players and basically taking the one who takes the best contract?

Maybe they aren't going to just take the one who takes the contract and actually have one guy they want most (shock) but are pretending there's options to try to drive his contract down pre-draft.

Does this help the Patriots in some way? I'm not really sure.

Since it seems almost a certainty that Jake Long and the Dolphins are not going to agree, there is no reason to think that they won't be picking defense. No other offensive player is even on their wish list at that spot.

HE is going to be a pillar of the defense. Looks like theyre drafting a dude.

Barring trades, it may push Jake Long down to #5.

I could see :

Miami - Gholston
Rams - Dorsey
Falcons - Ryan
Raiders - McFadden
Chiefs - J. Long

Although some will disagree with Atlanta.

This means Ellis or Chris Long would be there for us (I wouldn't be shocked if The Jest take Ellis).

Where we'd go and who we'd take who knows. I would like Jake to go to KC, though, as I have LJ on my fantasy team :D

Yet another quality G.M. for the Miami Dolphins.

Pillar means DT ....and playmaker means OLB. Since Ireland said "pillar", then Dorsey it is. This is easy. Except..........I was taught never to trust the Irish...........around your liquor cabinet.....so Dorsey it is!

Yeah! Great joke dude! :bricks:

Yip. Just before Adam Schefter reported that KC is shopping Jared Allen.

It's been reported that KC has Ellis #2 on their boards. It could mean both DTs are gone in the first 5 picks. Although I'm not sure why they'd weaken the line by trading Allen. Didn't he just get a new deal, or was he franchised?

If we agree Chris Long is worth it....do the Pats consider a trade to leapfrog the Jets?

It would assure that player (or any player they want) will be there.....except the cost would be a draft choice and the more expensive #5 money

Franchised

He is visiting with Minny Friday, then TB. Jacksonville was interested but has since withdrawn from talks. --per Adam Scheftler.

I just started a new post on this topic, because this move could also alter the Pats draft.

He might've just slipped up with his words... although I can't explain the beet red part (if that happened). I would guess Gholston would be the defensive pick, as Dorsey just doesn't really fit a 3-4 and it would be strange to spend the #1 pick on a player who doesn't completely and 100% fit your plan.
