Q&A with CB Antoine Cason...

Just your standard interview, but the one excerpt makes me proud to be a Pats fan:

PFW: What’s the toughest question a team has asked you during the draft process?

Cason: There have been a lot of tough ones. The one that was real tough was, ‘What have you given up to keep playing football? What sacrifices have you made to play football?’

PFW: And your answer?

Cason: I had an answer. I told them it was a girlfriend. I had to give up things like that, girls, give up some of that nightlife to make that sacrifice. And you know what? I made it. And I know that’s what makes me the best cornerback. I am dedicated, I work hard and things like that.

PFW: What team asked you that?

Cason: It was the Patriots.

I don't know if it was that particular interview (haven't clicked the link), but he said something else about the Patriots in a recent interview. seems like they made a positive impression.

It might require a small trade up in round 2, but i don't believe that the rest of the league is as enamored with Cason as the posters on this board.

Is it just me, or did Cason come off a pretty confident, intelligent, and grounded person, while Scott Wright's questions were slightly misguided?

Wright ask Cason about question marks concerning his speed, and Cason says his 4.45 forty should have answered some of those questions. I personally think those questions are bogus, and he looked plenty fast in-game, but that's just my opinion.

Then, Wright ask Antoine about possibly making the shift to Safety at the next level (supposedly some people think safety could be his best position), and Antoine tells Wright that none of the NFL teams he's talked to asked him about shifting to Safety...

Prior to the Combine, I guessed that Cason's speed was in the 4.47 range, based solely on watching him play. At the Combine, he certainly proved he has enough speed and athleticism. Logic says, if Law and Samuel's speed allowed them to play LCB -- then so can Cason's speed.

The shifting to Safety comment was ridiculous. It's almost a slap in the face to ask someone who's played CB since he was 8 years old, and has just run a respectable 4.45, to consider a position change. He's the most technically sound CB in this draft who also has great intangibles. Why wouldn't he be the #1 CB on the Pats board?

That safety questions makes it sound like the interviewer has already made up his mind about Cason, even before Cason gave his answer.

I'd say a lot of NFL CBs are capable of playing Safety. Fact is, they're CB capable also.
