Yeah, I know. You can't predict the unpredictable.
It's an exercise in futility. But I know I nailed it!

My Mock Draft

1. Miami - LT Jake Long, Michigan
Not a sexy pick, just an anchor for the 'Phins and Tuna.

2. St. Louis - RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas
It's goodbye Stephen Jackson, hello Darren McFadden.

3. Atlanta - DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU
A "can't miss" spot. The "BPA" is actually THE best player.

4. Oakland - DT Sedrick Ellis, USC
Al Davis has been wetting his diapers over him for months.

5. Kansas City - DE Chris Long, Virginia
The #3 & #5 spots are in play for trades. Long brings the heat.

6. NY Jets - LT Ryan Clady, Boise State
Rebuilt OL allows Jets Offense to finally take off; Clady adds flexibility.

7. New England - LB Keith Rivers, USC
Athleticism and pass coverage skills makes him the pick over Gholston.

8. Baltimore - QB Matt Ryan, BC
Don't be surprised if Ryan falls past here and into the #10-#15 area.

9. Cincinnati - DE Vernon Gholston, OSU
"Godzilla" is gone and the Bengals are desperate for a 4-3 DE.

10. New Orleans - DT Kentwan Balmer, UNC
They could go a lot of different ways (CB?) but Balmer fits best.

11. Buffalo - CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy
Not spectacular but a solid, blue-collar guy for a blue-collar team.

12. Denver - MLB Jerod Mayo, UT
Mayo's overstated rise up the boards reminds me of Boss Bailey.

13. Carolina - DE Derrick Harvey, FU
He would make an awesome bookend opposite Julius Peppers.

14. Chicago - RB Rashard Mendenhall, IU
Rumored to like Chris Williams but Mendenhall looks like "Sweetness."

15. Detroit - LB Dan Connor, PSU
Matt Millen has to see shades of his former self in Dan Connor.

16. Arizona - RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon
Perhaps the biggest steal of the draft, if he can ever get healthy.

17. Minnesota - LT Chris Williams, Vandy
The Vikings could be active on draft day but this would make sense.

18. Houston - Dominique-Rodgers Cromartie, TSU
The Texans have shown a willingness to gamble on small schools.

19. Philadelphia - RT Gosder Cherilus, BC
The Eagles have to see this former top ten prospect as a bargain.

20. Tampa Bay - CB Mike Jenkins, USF
Jenkins is the top DB on my board but the Bucs are praying.

21. Washington - DE Calais Cambell, UM
Likely to slide back but the Skins are in the market for DL help.

22. Dallas - WR Devin Thomas, MSU
The fast-rising Thomas should be the first WR off the board.

23. Pittsburgh - LT Jeff Otah, Pitt
Another big-ugly for a team who loves to draft them early.

24. Tennessee - WR DeSean Jackson, Cal
For a team in search of playmakers, it doesn't get any better.

25. Seattle - RB Felix Jones, Ark
Jones' cut back style is a perfect fit for a West Coast Offense.

26. Jacksonville - DE Quintin Groves, AU
Jags are looking for some heat off the edge and Groves has it.

27. San Diego - CB Antoine Cason, Arizona
Not flashy or exciting, just a typical Chargers kind of pick.

28. Dallas - RB Chris Johnson, EC
The Cowboys add the fastest and most underrated RB available.

29. San Francisco - QB Brian Brohm, Lou
Mike Martz should lobby for Brohm and his uncanny accuracy.

30. Green Bay - RB Matt Forte', Tulane
Not getting the media play he deserves but should sneak up.

31. NY Giants - WR Malcom Kelly, OU
Could be a great fill in for the always injured Plasico Burress.

There is no way there are 6 RB worthy of a first round pick no chance in hell. And why would thew rams take DMC when Jackson is one of the top 3 backs in the league that just silly. And No way Gholston falls that far the Jets will snap him in 2 seconds if he falls to them. Mayo at 12 is just nuts most people have him rated mid second round not mid first

While I too am often shocked and surprised at how drafts go, I suspect your method of guessing who will be picked, and then throwing that out the window and picking someone completely random and non-sequitor that nobody else figures to go at that position (or round) might not be the most accurate method of draft prediction, no matter how strong the "murphy's law" of armchair General Managers might seem to you right now...

That's brilliant. I love it. The only problem is that it applies to most every mock draft; and the so-called "consensus" picks are most often wrong, too.

Yeah, I know I'm sticking my neck out there to say 6 RB's go in the first. And, yeah, I knew I'd take some crap for it. But I think it's possible even if you choose to disagree.

Why would the Rams take McFadden when they have Jackson? Well, why did the Saints take Reggie Bush at #2 when they had Deuce (or why did they take Deuce when they had Ricky Williams)? I will tell you this, a lot of people aren't satisfied with Jackson and are excited at the possibility of McFadden.

But the Jets might put this argument to rest if they trade up to number two.
They're looking awfully hard at him (McFadden, not Gholston). Stranger things have happened than somebody like Gholston falling. It could easily happen. There is a reason why the so-called draft experts are often saying he's overrated.

As for Mayo, you'd be surprised how high some people are on him. It only takes one team to bite. Maybe he's a second rounder. But ---maybe not.

Can Jackson block for McFadden, or vice-versa? Just playing. I think you're mock is fresh and different, even though I disagree with the majority of it. I like Cason and Mayo going in the first, but I think Chris Johnson is a stretch and Calais Campbell as well.

I agree...don't think I haven't been tempted to do the same thing. Not a knock, just saying that put into actual practice for an entire round of picks, it starts to look even more far fetched than the reality of past drafts, no matter how "out there" you think you ought to go based on what you remember from years past and the head scratching marathon you had whilst watching rounds 1-3 go by.

did you just close your eyes and choose these draft picks out of a hat? or is this draft unintentionally stupid?

STL takes Darren McFadden?
Balmer a top 10 pick?
Gholston at DE?
NYJ draft Clady?

That's only the tip of the iceberg. Leave the mock drafts to idiots like Mel Kiper Jr who hide the stupidity better than you.

Wow buddy, back down. Gholston would play DE in a 4-3. The Chiefs took LJ when they had Priest in his prime. Balmer could go top 15. NYJ need LOTS of things, including line help.

Gholston is a bit small for a 4-3 DE. It's in the realm of possibility though so I'll conceed that. LJ was picked late first round not 2nd overall and Priest was a bit past his prime too. If Balmer goes top 15 its out of need, not value. It's a heck of a lot more likely in the top 15 than it is in the top 10. The Jets don't need line help. They already had D'Brickashaw Furgusen(sp?) at LT and Nick Mangold at C and they just signed Alan Faneca and Damien Woody at the Guard position and Tony Richardson at FB. I suppose Anthony Clement could be upgraded but he is a decent veteran starter and frankly I don't see the point when the Jets aready have arguably the best OL in football with their new additions. I think line help is the last of the Jets worries.

Cool mock. A little nutso and wacky, but cool. But I dont even see the name of the guy NE's taking with their first pick anywhere in your 1st round. Perhaps an oversight. Wont even mention his name. It'll make looking back on this particular mock that much more fun.

Errrr not sure I cna let that comment go by - while they may have upgraded - no way are they close to the best.

With all of the Rams needs they aren't drafting a running back in the first round to replace a pro bowl talent.
