The word on the street is that Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long doesn't want to play for the Dolphins, who continue to negotiate with him as the first overall draft choice. There's a special honor in being the first pick so Long's agents continue to talk.

LOL. Rumor is they have Gholston next in line to negotiate over Chris Long. Can you even begin to imagine the Dolphins drafting Gholston at #1? Talk about super neanderthal, thats the most dumb thing ever, especially since the fish are implementing a 3-4 and plan on using him at OLB. Hes got issues at OLB!

Why would you NOT want to play for the Dolphins? Give me a big, fat paycheck and the opportunity to live the rest of my life on Miami Beach and I'd jump at it. This guy is a moron.

Couple of things...

If I'm Parcells, I would confront Long with this immediately. If he flinches, then pull the offer.

Also, I would say this is not good for the Pats, especially if they had hopes (dreams?) of getting C Long or Gholston at #7. If Gholston goes 1 there's no way Long makes it past the Jets IMO.

If it's Gholston #1

then Jake Long to the Rams
Dorsey to the Falcons
McFadden or Chris Long to the Raiders
someone else to the Chiefs
McFadden or Chris Long to the Jets

The worst case scenario draft for NE would be if the Cheifs then took Ryan. But if Ryan could fall to 7, then we're back in business.

i dont agree id love for the fish to take Gholston #1 that will push more good players down to us and increase the chance of getting Chris Long. If we want Chris Long there is no doubt we will have to leapfrog the Jets and trade with KC anyways, by Dolphins going Gholston this just increases our chances of getting Long.

Co-sign. I would be surprised if Parcells took Gholston, though.

"Word on the street" is what I call in dept reporting. I just came back from walking my dogs on my street and there wasn't any word about that.

If the Dolphins take Jake Long, this was possible.

J Long
Dorsey
Ryan
Gholston
Ellis
McFadden
Chris Long to the Pats

or J Long
Dorsey
Ryan
McFadden
Ellis
Chris Long
Gholston to Pats without moving

If Gholston goes #1, I think it becomes a MUST to trade up, as you noted above.

Would you prefer Gholston and 69 OR Chris Long? That is I guess the crux of the issue here.

why would the pats trade up just to put a player out of him normal postion. maybe it's jsut me but that doesn't make sense why waste the extra pick when you can get a player that plays that postion at that pick and will more than likely be jsut as good as the Workout Warrior everyone has a binky for

Where did you hear that the fish were implementing the 3-4? Especially since they let their best NT (Traylor) go?

Also, did you ever stop to think that MAYBE Parcells plans on using Gholston off the bench behind Jason Taylor if, in fact, they are switching to a 3-4.

So your worst case scenario is that the top 6 rated players go in the top 6 draft slots? Somehow I think the Pats will be prepared if this happens.

I actually think this is just fine. Ellis would be a prime target for a number of teams below the Pats. Trade down, still get a top player for 6 years, get another pick in the 2nd-3rd round, manipulate the picks to get specific targets in the early rounds. What's not to like?

With maybe a few exceptions - such as the seemingly perpetually bad Raiders - I think its pretty funny when players posture like this.

Remember Eli Manning didn't want to play for SD - of course SD wound up getting better quicker than the Giants.

Of course in that case it was really the Mannings knowing that the endorsement money in NYC was much more lucrative than SD - so even though he made it sound like it was about football, it was about money.

i thought it was common knowledge that parcells was running a 3-4 where did you hear otherwise? Traylor is 526 years old why would anyone want him as their nosetackle, Parcells is cleaning house and cutting the scrubs. He also got rid of Zach Thomas who isnt the best fit inside for a 3-4.

This makes no sense. How is it better for the Dolphins to take Gholston, one of the two top DEs. The Dolphins taking Gholston won't "push" players at us. If we wont one of Gholston/C. Long, it would not be helpful to have one of them taken with the first pick.

Crazy talk. Why would we have to trade with the Chiefs if:

FIns = J Long
Rams = Dorsey
Falcons = Ryan
Raiders = McFadden

No trade down required. We are guaranteed one of Ellis-Gholston-C Long

Whatever, if we want one of two DEs in the top seven, it is not good for us if one gets taken early.

I never heard the Fins were going to a 3-4. Where did you hear that?

We want Chris Long, if Gholston goes 1st which he wasnt expected to that pushes Jake Long down. Now the Rams and Atlanta have Jake Long as an option and if they take him that will push Dorsey and Chris Long down, like a ripple effect. Teams lower like the Raiders will now have Dorsey as an option. The only way Chris Long will fall to us and not go HIGH is if an overrated player like Gholston goes 1st and bumps all the elite players down.

The only player worth trading up for is Chris Long. If he makes it to KCs pick we'll need to move ahead of the Jets to get him you can bet on that.

The loot for McFadden or Ryan dwarfs the loot for Ellis.

I wouldn't say "dwarfs" but I agree with your point. My point was that there are at least 7 strong prospects (Ellis included). That makes even the worst case scenario (stuck with a player they don't want, but a solid trade prospect) still look pretty good to me.
