Again, I'm not saying it WILL happen, or is even likely to happen, but . . . .

* McFadden is available at #7. The Pats trade for Dallas' two firsts. (If need be/possible, extra picks or, say, Bobby Carpenter or my binky Justin Rogers.)
* If desired, the Pats trade up, using one of their thirds, up to #15 or #16 (for #69) or #18 or #19 (for #92), and take a CB or OLB or ILB (whichever one you think will be there and will help the Pats most).
* The Pats then trade #28 to a team desperate for Brian Brohm (or anyone else for that matter) . . . for a 2009 1st.

So, the Pats' first 100 picks become:
*A six-year deal on a first-rounder, a late second, a late third, and a 2009 first, or
*A five-year deal on a first-rounder, a late second, an early third, and a 2009 first.
*Maybe an extra player from Dallas.

Thoughts?

This all hinges on McFadden dropping to #7 and Dallas making a trade offer with their two 1st round picks. I'm not saying I don't like it, I just don't know if it's going to happen realistically speaking. The Pats in general like to get future 1st round picks. If they had two 1st round picks in 2009 they could move up for a guy like Rey Maluaga if they really loved him.

Very tough call. I'm gonna pass, saying we need the defensive bodies now. If BB thought Carpenter could help immediately and he was included, I'd be more inclined to go along.

Also depends on the team we're trading with. I realize that's a wild card (most of us would have been happy if San Fran's pick was 12 or so, it turned out we were about 3 plays from picking in the top 4). A team like the Chiefs for example, I'd take their 09 #1.

Justin Rogers, where have I heard that name before, Oh yeah was'nt he drivin a beer truck or somethin.

I think a trade with Dallas(if DMF is available of course) could very likely include Rogers.....but it would be more likely that we have to give another later pick(5th?)back to them for him. I think BB would rather have him and his cheaper contract than Carpenter.
A trade like that in the later part of the first has alot more value, and we might be able to combine those 2 moves by trading with TB(say #7 for #20 and thier #1 next year)if Ryan is there. I would be willing to bet that somewhere the first day we trade with ATL though...they practically own the draft.

... not to mention all the other aspects of the scenario.

I like this scenario - and if things start to fall into place I could definately see all of it happening - I made an early prediction of that but didn't take it quite as far as you did...

But basically I'm open to whatever BB deems fit on this pick. If there's a sure thing guy they like at #7 or above I see them staying pat or moving up.

I don't think ANY of us have any read on who BB truly likes and values at any pick

So if BB does it, you know it was the best possible decision based on the information at hand.

You guys are gonna hate me for saying it. And, the board will be in meltdown mode if it happens on draft day. But, let's play this scenario out. We trade 7 for both Dallas firsts.
We get a cb with the first one. Say, A.Cason. We're on the clock at 28, and a couple of teams want to move ahead of Miami to draft Brian Brohm. We trade them 28 for their 2nd this year. And, their first in 09. Like the Boller trade. And, the Quinn trade last year.
We get our olb. E.Henderson,C.Avril or B.Davis. Whomever BB prefers. We have multiple ones again next year. We still have 62, 69 and 93.

1. A.Cason - cb
2a C. Avril - olb
2b D. Brown - ol
3a C. Jackson - cb
3b A good rb will prob be avail here. Let's say S. Slaton.
4 C. Stevens - te

It is important to remember that next year's first round will include Maualuga and Laurinaitis, at a minimum. We may not know what other LB prospects to expect (e.g. who was talking about Gholston this time next year?), but it's a good bet the LB class will be historic.

i like it, except the part about trading our pick away....

i would move down and get a pass rushing OLB, or Rivers the ILB if he falls to mid teens

and keep the second 1st rounder to use on drafting cason

bobby on top would make this an amazing draft

Not bad except I don't see a (bad) team giving the Pats potentially a top-12 pick next year (why else do they need a QB?) for the right to move up 10-15spots in the draft. They might give us their 3rd round pick but not their 2nd.
