I presume a QB in the top 6.

PART ONE - Is there any of these that you would NOT take at #7?
Jake Long
Chris Long
Dorsey
Ellis
Gholston
McFadden
---------
PART TWO - If you would NOT choose one of the above, would you accept one of these instead?

Clady
Albert
------------------
I would take any of the six, so I don't need to answer Part Two.

I wouldn't take any of the bottom two at number seven. I don't know. I guess I'm just one of those wierd people who saw Brady stand up straight enough to throw 50 TD passes during the season. I guess I'm just one of those wierd people that thinks our offensive line is just fine. I guess I'm just one of those wierd people who thinks that the Giants defensive line's pressure was a fluke in that one game. Before the Super Bowl, they were being talked about as possibly one of the greatest units of all time. Now, to Pats fans around here especially, they're leaky, fat, and slow and will get blown off the line every time. My, how fickle some of us truely are.

McFadden.

If I couldn't trade down and had to use the pick at #7 I'd take Albert.

I think the only one's we'd take are the Longs. And, V.Gholston. I don't see Ellis or Dorsey fitting in our defense. Too many red flags on D.McFadden. I'm pretty sure we're trading out. Or up for C.Long or Gholston. If I have to pick at 7. I can live with Albert or Clady.
I'll say Albert Looks like he has a more solid base. IE Bigger Butt.

Would not take McFadden.

I would go with Clady over Albert.

Would not take Dorsey, Ellis and McFadden.

Would prefer Albert. More versatile

Chris Long has a better chance than Jake Long at being available at #7 IMO

It would be ******ed to take McFadden unless Maroney was traded a few hours earlier,In fact if McFadden was selected, I would b-tch slap BB and all FO for that move without an earlier trade involving Maroney -

No way is Maroney & McFadden together on this roster-PERIOD!.

As far as Clady or Albert is concerned - Clady is a better chioce

I would not take
Jake Long - I do not like the idea of geting a RT at #7
Dorsey - I do not like the idea of getting a rotational DL at #7
Ellis - I do not like the idea of getting a rotational DL at #7
or
McFadden - I figure he is more Reggie Bush then Adrian Peterson

I would take C. Long or V. Gholoston. I think it is hard to find guys good at getting to the QB and do not have a problem putting a premium on them.

II.
Clady - I do not like the idea of geting a RT at #7, and really do not see Light moving to RT and Clady to LT next year.
Albert - I really, really, really do not like the idea of geting a RG at #7. He might have what it takes to be a tackle, maybe not. We have all seen D'Brick in the pros for 2 years now, and Albert couldn't beat him out.

Being self-critical has its benefits, it helps you identify weaknesses and improve upon them, instead of just telling yourself how wonderful you are. Being a good fan requires the same honest scrutiny of your favorite team. Most fans are aware that Brady's skill makes up for pass protection deficiencies in the Pat O-line. Brady is the reason the Pats defy the laws of parity and compete for titles every season. His health is always the #1 issue for this team. If a prospect is available who upgrades Brady's protection, it is never a bad idea to consider selecting him. So I guess I'm WEIRD.

Chalk me up in the weird column also, I think our line is fine.

I wouldn't take McFadden - I can understand the great athlete thing and the "don't be afraid to take a chance on greatness" thing but with Maroney/Morris/Faulk and a deep RB group - plus the fact that a second RB just can't help you the way a second player on the field can at most positions, I just wouldn't do it.

Of those mentioned, I would NOT take Gholston. Not because of the recent bad press about him being overrated but rather because the Patriots would be asking him to do something that at which he's inexperienced and unproven. Namely, playing OLB. Generally, the Patriots bring in players BECAUSE they are experienced and proven at what they're asked to do.

As for Clady or Albert, no way. That's a big stretch. They would be better off trading back and taking Cherilus to play what they know he can, which is RT.
I might add that if it comes down to taking Gholston or Keith Rivers, the pick is most likely Rivers. However, I have a hard time ruling out DB Mike Jenkins.

Sean Payton recently said that he sees McFadden as a future superstar, but a hybrid back. Not a bell-cow NFL rb, but Reggie Bush as he should have been. A change of pace, gamebreaker and slot receiver.

From that perspective, a team could conceivably play McFadden and a lead back like Maroney together, as the Saints originally wanted to play Bush with McCallister.

Obviously I would be pissed if the Pats draft McFadden, but it's always safe to prepare for the worst in advance. If it happens, maybe I'll be less likely to smash my TV.

The saints originally did play Bush that way with McCallister. While he was not terrible in that role, he was hardly productive enough to warrant a top pick.

If that is the role Mcfaddedn projects to (and I'm not sure I share Payton's take) he is going to go not only a number of picks too high, he is going to go a number of rounds too high.

I would not touch Clady or Albert. And I would be extremely cautious with Gholston unless you have a specific scheme that is a 100% fit for. ie: The Raiders as a DE; NOT OLB.

I would draft McFadden in a skinny second and after teaching to to take care of the ball, use him all game long on kickoff returns and as an HB, kind of like they tried with the TE from Tulsa that went to the Vikings. He is a home run waiting to happen every time he touches the ball. Over the course of the season I would gently work McFadden into the Faulk role and starting in 2009, let McFadden have it FT.

mgteich, another enjoyable thread.

I'd have a hard time swallowing McFadden because if he's still there we'd almost certainly be able to trade down and still get McKelvin, DRC, Mayo, maybe even Rivers (though he scares me as a ILB - not sharp enough I'd guess, as an OLB I'd say fine), etc. Either Clady and Albert would likely be there if we only moved down 3 or 4 spots. So' I'd say any of the dudes on your list #1 are cool at 7 except for McFadden.

the answer to part 2 - NO.

Sure, but you really need to ask, how much of an upgrade are you getting?

If your LT, LG, and C are all pro-bowlers, then how much of upgrade are you getting with a rookie that would be paid as much as any of them?

Clady might be drafted by Baltimore, or even KC. If he is a starting LT, then he's not a reach, even if he would play RT for us.

BTW, I think the key is Ryan. He could be this year's Quinn or not. It seems last year we were all speculating where in the top 10 Quinn would be drafted. I would be happy with any of the six, but would need more information on Clady.

I have no doubt they could work together. But we already have a prolific, frequently used passing game - to the point that it'll be tough to get Maroney his 20 carries/3 catches and Morris his 10 carries/2 catches that I would like them both to get.

If this were the 2006 Patriots, the idea would intrigue me.
