Love Chris Ellis and I considered him with this pick. Henderson/ Robertson, I am a little on the fence about in terms of their suitability( not their talent). I thought Pollack was the best available talent at this point, and reading his scouting reports, thought he could play a pretty fair guard in the Pats system as well as being the best center coming out of the draft.

Getting McKelvin, Duane Brown, Jonathan Goff, Mike Pollack, & Jack Williams would be a great haul in the first three rounds IMO. Did we miss on some people? Of course, it's a lottery and others are playing.

That would be a terrible draft for the Pats. A tackle and a center in the first three rounds? No thank you! I see the Pats trading down not once, but twice which could give them 4 third rounders to play with (2 of their own and 2 acquired through draft day trades). In the first round, the Pats need to get a pass rushing LB ala Quientin Groves. In the second round, I think the Pats could use one of their 4th's and trade up to grab a CB or best player available (which is hopefully on the defensive side of the ball). I think one of these "top corners" that we think we be in the first round will drop into the second round. Then rinse and repeat in the third round. And for the love of god, please don't trade a TE until the 5th round!

Notes:
This guy is really the definition of a playmaker in the secondary...Also a top punt returner and coverage team gunner...A talented, finesse corner with a great combination of size and speed. Only played two years of organized football prior to Indiana.

McKelvin's a decent pick, but I'm not sure I like the other picks you take for the Pats. It looks marginally bad. I think the Pats would be better served by moving up in the second round to secure another solid guy with starter potential.

I agree with you 100%.
I am curious. Will some one explain Goff to me? Everyone on this site loves him. What am I missing? The book on him is slow and can't cover well, not particularly a thumper but smart. Other than that he is not particularly strong. Is he the younger version of what we have now? I'd like to like him but I cannot see it?

I never have figured that out. We won 18 games last year. How many players that we draft will potentially start in '08. Brown and Pollack are solid, talented players in the Patriots style, and when we do have a need (due to injuries, etc) they should be able to step up so that we don't lose a beat. In a year, or two I think they both start. I am really concerned with the repeated injuries to the right side of the line, more than even ILB & DB. Protecting Brady should be everything in our system.

Goff was just throwing the board a bone after Brown and Pollack. If you saw who I was really considering... It was too early.

This was a preliminary board. I don't think that you can really say that the Pats should draft players x, y, & z without looking at the needs of the other teams around us- basically to see who really might be available. I like the first round trade, but I really don't see us taking all the picks- 62,69,78 & 94. IMM there will be a trade up. Now I have to sit back and determine for whom, and with whom. Don't be surprised if Goff/ Pollack don't make it to the edited version.

So you project that we take the risk of trading and then lose our opportunity at one of the top LB's? I would only trade down to 10 if bb was happy with taking either Harvey or Rivers. Given what is available later and our needs, McKelvin is a terrible pick for us.

Rivers and Harvey should both be in the 20's on the Patriots Draft board (not the they will be drafted there, but in terms of how well they fit out scheme). I'd rather pick Mayo, or Groves in the 20's but the question is how do we get there? With the exception of Dallas, I don't see any teams with the where withall to move down to #7. Do we do a second trade? Possibly, but I think it would be a remote possibility. I've come around on McKelvin to where I think he is the cb that would be the best fit for the Pats. By trading with NO I picked the player I wanted anyway- and also picked up pick #78 for further ammunition.

I agree with the poster who would have moved up from 62 a bit and pick Porter instead of an OT.

I like Porter. I like Godfrey (I have him as one of my picks in the pick- 8). I see Godfrey more as a nickel who might become a exceptional S. As I said previously, I do see us making a move, though at this time I don't have the particulars. I don't think I would move up for Porter- there are too many other cb's I like as well, and I feel one of them will drop.

I'm guessing that you mean the top- 20 where Long, Clady, Williams,Otah & Albert should all fall. I think that you are wrong. I think that what makes this draft special is in the depth of the top OL'men. Beyond the 1st rounders, Baker, Collins & Brown are all top, talented linemen, that in a more normal year would be getting a lot more pre- draft consideration. After Collins/ Brown, I think that there is a big dropoff in talent to the next tier. I was very happy to get Brown.

I don't understand using #78 for an OL. King (CB picked at 89) seems more of a need for us. Goff is a reach at #69, an unnecessary one if we took care of business in the first round. #69 could be Godfrey (a cb who you have at 77)

Best available. King has never seemed to play up to his obvious talents. Given the choice between King and J Williams, I would rather have Williams (who I can get later anyway). I like Godfrey, but after looking at the way the board shaped up, I went for the best available talent. I feel that Pollack can also help us at Guard. Think of him as a huge talent upgrade from Hochstein.

Like I said in a previous post I don't see a linebacker in our 1st round future, just because of values (and I doubt that Harvey will succeed at OLB anyway).
