Gosselin's first mock

Very interesting, he has Dorsey going at #2 thus freeing Atlanta to take Ryan.

I could live with Gholston, although I do not think he is the best pass rusher in the draft.

Given Groves off-field stuff. And, injuries. Foot problems always seem to come back. I think he's a safer pick. We still have to get after the qb to win the Super Bowl. Peyton,Big Ben and P.Rivers in the AFC.
Plus, when we get to the big game Eli or Romo. Trade up in Round 2 for a cb we like. 62 AND 69 should get us to mid 40's. Maybe, A.Cason will drop. Or, someone like C.Godfrey or P.Lee. Grab an ILB at 94. Maybe, Goff is there.

1. V.Gholson olb
2. P. Lee cb
3. J. Goff ilb
4. C. Stevens -te
5. DB like a Molden,Trae Williams, Stanruck - Boise, or Wheatley from Colorado.

Haven't addressed OL. But, we did socre 589 bleepin points last year. They just have to play one more game like they played the first 18.

I was wavering for a while, but I think Lee's a S not a CB. Wheatley is one of my favorites. He looks like a solid #2 cb.

-Keith Rivers to KC at #5? I don't think so! Patrick Willis was light years ahead of Rivers in terms of talent last year and he went to SF at #11.

-I don't think Matt Ryan will go #3 to Atlanta. Ryan is overrated just like most QB's hyped up before the draft.

-Chris Johnson is a surprise pick to the Bucs at #20. This is one player I wouldn't be surprised to see a team take him in the first round. He has a lot of talent and could make a Devin Hester type impact on special teams from day 1.

-Why is everyone so hung up on Felix Jones to Dallas? Just because Jerry Jones likes McFadden doesn't mean he likes Felix Jones. I like the Gosslin's comment "A speed complement to Marion Barber"; they are the same speed in terms of 40 times. Therefore, he is not a "change of pace back. Jones will be lucky if he is a first round pick.

I'm hoping we would land Chris Johnson in the second round.

You do realize that Jones would be a "Change of Pace" to Barber and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with their timed 40 speed, right? Oh wait. No, you don't realize that.

Barber = 5'11 and 221 lbs. Bruising down-hill runner. Ran a 4.53 at the combine.
Jones = 5'10 and 207 lbs. Scat-back ala Tiki Barber. Has been compared to a water-bug on the field. Ran a 4.44 at the combine.

Do you understand, NOW, how Jones would be a change of pace to Barber?

Also, you do realize that Gosselin has gotten more picks correct in the last 3 years than any other person out there? Yes, this is only his first mock, but he's damn good at his mocks.

This is only the first mock, and He even says that team needs will be weighted more heavily in the second mock (of three). I like some of what he's done here, but I can't see Keith Rivers going quite that high. It's interesting that this mock is heavily based on BPA, and he has Rivers going in the top 5. Maybe Rivers is a little better than some of you guys realize? I think he's going to be an outstanding LB at the next level.

Also, I wonder if the Patriots would jump the Jets for Chris Long?

Getting to the Cowboys picks. I personally think they might just select Kenny Phillips and Chris Johnson in the first round, then come back with either a CB or a WR in the second round.

Well, Gosselin, according to Reiss, is pretty connected and his mocks are very accurate, especially his final one on draft weekend. Last year, he did get Meriweather to the Pats right.

However, Gosselin also talked about how teams were taking Meriweather off the board, and blasted the Pats on a few other issues too -- maybe in May or June or so. I sent an e-mail to him explaining the truth, and he responded with a nasty e-mail of his own.

I have to think the reason Gosselin made so strange a projection as Rivers to KC is because a little birdie told him something.

Wheatley's numbers from the combine indicate that he has the quick-twitch that BB covets in a DB. I would not be surprised to see BB draft him because of it.

I could be wrong, but I have a funny feeling that the signing of Hobson means Goff is not a significant player on BB's draft card. What I mean is Hobson is a bridge to someone from the 2009 FA market or draft. Malualauga? I hope I am wrong. I like Goff.

I could not agree more.

My take is that KC is looking to trade down. The 2 players they covet at #5 are J.Long and Ryan, but they think J. Long will be gone at #1, Ryan at #3. So they want to trade down before Baltimore picks and still get Clady. Therefore they have ID'd the Pats as their target. Rivers is popping up everywhere as the player the pats are most likely to take. So KC is floating that they plan on taking him. Pretty soon we'll here they love C. Long and Gholston too. I think it's a sham.

That's what makes the top of the draft so exciting. It's been so long since we've been here that I've kind of forgotten/hadn't paid attention to it.

This mock draft primarily adopts the best-player-available philosophy. Next weekend's mock draft will more heavily weigh team needs.
This certainly does look like a combination BPA and team needs type mock -- which is not normal for Gosselin. His accuracy is usually based on which position will be each team's focus in round one. For example:

His connections may tell him that Team X wants a CB in round one. Unless a little birdie tells him which CB, he pulls the top rated CB from his rankings, and plugs him into his mock.

The Rivers pick is indeed a head scratcher. Only because reportedly, according to their team report, KC's top 3 needs are OL/CB/WR with OL clearly #1. And with Clady and Otah available, even though #5 seems a bit high for them, addressing their priority need makes more sense than selecting a LB. Good chance Gosselin will change this pick in his mock #2.

If KC is interested in the pick of the OL's once Long is gone, there is no cost to them to trade with us or the jets. I would think that they would talk to both of us.

Rivers before Gholston? That doesn't seem realistic to me.

I know Rick Gosselin is the new Will McDonough. Remember his mock on the front page of the Boston Globe the day of the draft? Usu. incredibly accurate because of his connections with every front office in the league.

But why would people be talking to Gosselin this early unless it's The Art of Warfare type thing, in order to shuck and jive other teams? I remember the Patriots did it brilliantly with the Jets a few years ago with Dwayne Robertson, whom the Jets panicked and picked near the top.

It's an excellent mock if one were to switch Rivers and Gholston. I think Keith Rivers coming to NE is more plausible. Gholston will likely be gone by #7, which means we actively look to trade down. We could probably get a decent corner or LB a little latter in the draft and stock up on another draft pick where there's traditionally more value: second through fourth rounds. Remember only half of the first-rounders pan out. That is a franchise anchor when the wrong guy is picked and valuable cap room gets siphoned off.

Detroit, I'm thinking of you.

If the Jets had to pick between Gholston and McFadden, though, that would be incredibly interesting what they would do. They would probably go with the running back with much gnashing of teeth. But I don't know.

The real dilemma for the Patriots is what they do if all their top picks are gone by #7, no one offers them enough value to trade down, and all the corners are available along with a decent LB or two. What do they do?

McKelvin is probably where they go or Rivers. Rodgers-Cromartie I think is too much of a reach, being raw and largely untested. And when he faced decent competition in Louisville he reportedly didn't look too good.

To spice it up, if all that pans out and we have an opportunity with the Arkansas RB, what do we do? Hmm. I still think McFadden is the most explosive offensive player to come out of college since, ah, Randy Moss.

He torched SEC defenses whose players figure very prominently in this draft, folks.

i have no idea what you are talking about. You lost me right away.

Do you mean that Jones is a "change of pace" back because he is shorter than Barber?

that means he's smaller. I could see that. haha ok ill cut the crap.

Seriously though, is this guy that accurate with his mocks?

As I understand it, it's Gosselin's final mock that's the gold standard (which sites like thehuddlereport crib from to make their own final mocks look good). At this stage in the game everything is fluid, and Gosselin is just one more voice.
