Its time for guessing which NFL star will be on the cover of Madden '09.

Vince Young almost got away with the Madden curse but did miss some time with a nagging injury but was probably the healthiest Madden cover player in quite a while to avoid IR or several games off like most of the past years cover boys.

I think with the whole spygate issue and the 18-1 near perfect season,I am afraid it may very well be a NE Patriot donning the cover this year,I hope not but I think its definately a good possibility.

I am going to rule out a QB this year since Madden rarily uses the same position 2 years in a row,so lets go with a WR this year as most likely.

I say Wes Welker is going to be on the cover of Madden 09 if its a WR but I would rather see an Adrian Peterson,Patrick Willis or maybe even Calvin Johnson so if it is not a NE player I say it will be a 2nd year player from a real good rookie squad last season.

I am not expecting Randy Moss on it either but he would be in my top 10 guesses.

So,Who is your pick for the cover of Madden '09 ??

Welker? seriously? Chances are almost zero. Moss is 1,000 times more likely

adrian peterson

I pray every night that it is Eli Manning. Even though it is wrong to wish ill will on the mentally ******ed...

Yeah,Usually EA Sports goes after a guy somewhere in mid to upper pack of his position and Welker fits the bill IMO.

If its not a WR perhaps Maroney would be a choice.

Moss is still considered a 'bad' guy to some so maybe it could be a reason if he does not get it,But then again didn't Ray Lewis make the 2003 cover?

If its any player out there I certainly hope its not David Tyree.the Giants WR who caught the ball on his helmet in the SB,That would give me nightmares everytime I played the game.

Exactly. It isn't even a question. Madden is for fantasy football guys. And ADP is the new Crown Prince of FF. I'd say if Vegas had odds ADP would be 2-3 right now.

Actually on an EA Sports forum the favorite right now is Tom Brady, followed by Devin Hester and then a distant slew of others including Peterson.

Brady has no chance IMO since he was already on the NFL Gameday 2003 cover

I believe it's extremely unlikely that Moss or Brady will be on the cover. I believe last year LaDainian Tomlinson actually turned down the cover of Madden and I would expect Moss or Brady to do the same. The reason is that the player on the cover has to do some publicity for the game and "only" gets paid about 100K. I don't think either Moss or Brady would be willing to do the publicity expected of the coverboy considering neither player grants many interviews during the offseason.

I could have some of the facts messed up on this story as I am going by memory off a few posts by Florio on PFT last year.

My impression has always been that ther Madden cover goes to the player who is the best combination of New, Exciting and recognizable. So I'd rule out Brady (New-ness) Moss (ditto) and Welker who I don't see having a recognizable face to non-Pats fans. I also don't know how fans outside of New England would rate the excitement/breakout factor of a slot receiver. I almost think Calvin Johnson is a possibility but he didn't really break out last year and most of his rocognition comes from college.

I could see Tony Romo, Bob Sanders, Osi Umenyora or this guy:

I could see the league putting Shaun Taylor on the cover!!!!

See as Hill seemed to go under the radar, except to us Patriot fans!!!

Madden has next to nothing to do with fantasy football. Actually, scratch that, it has absolutely nothing to do with fantasy football whatsoever. Vince Young was on the cover last year. He's virtually worthless as a fantasy Qb.

Eli's on the cover of 09

The intention is to SELL video games - there won't be any Patriots on the cover.

Ususally, the cover represent an aera where there is improvements...

What's new in this upcoming version?

The new UNSTOPPABLE Eli Manning Card that can be used in the final 2 minutes of a game.

Ahh nothing, the same @#@#@$ gameplay, graphics engine and animations. This game has not had any major tweaks since they were forced to because of nfl2k back in 2000. Now with no compitition and being the only company able to produce nfl sports games you can expect the same bug ridden game that has basically had a roster update and some stupid new option that is mainly worthless when the rest of the game is full of bugs.

And they also have scratched the pc version if any of you still game on a pc. Ea sucks and i dont see that changing anytime soon, madden 08 was the highest traded in game for all gamestops and eb stores for 08, and im willing to bet 09 will take that crown again this year!

In my store, Madden 08 was heavily traded in the past 2 months but it seems to me that Halo 3 for the xbox 360 was overall the heaviest traded game for the past 6 months - I had 10 copies trade in last week alone

I vote for Tony Dungy. May Madden curse f-him up.
