TROY BROWN UNDECIDED ON RETIREMENT
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 8, 2008, 5:06 p.m.
After 15 seasons with the New England Patriots, wide receiver Troy Brown has been told he won’t be offered a contract with the team this year. But he’s not sure whether he’ll retire or try to catch on with another team.
“I haven’t come to an answer to that question yet,” Brown told the Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, West Virginia, where he was working a football camp this week. “I’m not in a hurry to make any decisions. We’ll just see what happens in the next few weeks, months, whatever it takes to make up my mind.”
Brown, who will turn 37 in July, played just one game in 2007 and would likely have to take a minimum-salary deal and compete for a roster spot if he wanted to play in 2008. But he would apparently consider that, and his versatility — he can contribute on special teams and even defense in a pinch — might earn him a job.
And Brown might miss football enough that he’d be willing to come back as the 53rd man on a roster.
“Missing it? Yeah, I would miss it if I had to give it up,” Brown said. “It’s one of those things you can’t avoid. You can’t outrun Father Time.”
