OT: Sal Paolantonio destroys T.O.

Since it's a slow news day/week/month/offseason, I figured I'd post this here. He basically said that T.O. has no business being mentioned in the same sentence with Rice and Moss (the top two receivers of all time rated by a panel of experts in an ESPN survey earlier in the month. It's on the page I linked to). This comes after T.O. was ranked in the BROAT conversation. Personally, I like Paolantonio and have always thought he is a straight shooter. This report made me smile and I hope it does the same thing for you.

I agree with him, but I think saying "And in four of his past six postseason games -- the biggest games of his career -- this alleged superstar had 49 or fewer receiving yards," is a tad disingenuous because you are ignoring a great performance in the Super Bowl coming off of an injury because it doesn't fit the rest of the argument. And a receiver can help his team in more ways than yards, or are we going to say that Randy Moss is not great because he only had 94 yards in the postseason this year?

Paolantonio mentioned it. Only he pointed out that, while Owens had a great game in the Super Bowl, he was gloating about his yards after that and saying "God is good, God is great". Personally, I would be more disappointed with losing the Super Bowl than happy about my statistics. But Owens is selfish and Paolantonio did a brilliant job of pointing that out. Perfect example, IMO.

It's funny, because I decided to go look for the full press conference with Owens quotes from the Super Bowl and the title of it was "Terrell Owens exhibits humble attitude in loss". Here's the full quote

Of course not, teams like to take away what you like to do most in playoff games, anyone who has paid any attention to the Parcells/Belichick style of defense these past 20 or so years can tell you that.

The truth is he's a Philadelphia based writer upset with how the situation with Owens unfolded as an Eagles fan. After the McNabb-Owens war ended we've seen Philly draft a quarterback to replace McNabb, Owens lead the league in touchdowns since then, and the Eagles desperate to add a playmaking wide receiver to their team. Think they're having any second thoughts about which talent they sided with? Anybody that thinks that T.O. is in the same category as Rice or Moss is wearing big time homer glasses, but at the same time if you discount him as a talent you're simply doing the reverse.

42 catches, 817 yards, 19.5 per catch, 10 TDs in 11 playoff games. Thats 74 yards per game, not 30...

Sorry I should have been more specific, I meant in this years playoffs where he was at 31.33 a game. Believe me I wasn't bashing Moss, just saying it's ridiculous to just use yardage to measure what a player is bringing to the game when you figure in Brady breaking the completion % record in that same playoff run.
