sweet A LB :rocker:

Should be a solid guy for this team coming from a familar system.

here's to hoping he doesn't stinks.

lets hope so....the only question is...why only 1 year?

either he wanted a lot, and th epats gave their usual one year prove it for little money deal........or they expect him not to be needed after this year...

i think its the former

VERY good....BIG move and I think they have waited..to see if when something happens like that before Seward is offered...GREAT news!!

I guess this means Seward will not be visiting tomorrow?

maybe they only want him to play inside and aren't sure of him in that spot.

Nice. He was the LB I was hoping for from the get-go.

Another one-year deal, too.

I hope this is correct. Well before the start of free agency I wanted the Patriots to sign him, and couldn't understand their lack of interest.

I'm expecting the Patriots to try him at ILB.

Edit:

Oh, and it's actually per Adam Shefter. PFT's just reporting on what Shefter has said.

Specifically, the Pats have agreed to terms with linebacker Victor Hobson on a one-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network. It’s a one-year deal.

Hobson's official website:
http://victorhobson.com/1.html

His Scouting report:
Grade: 72 | Key
Alert: None

Comment: Hobson is a short, stocky built player with good strength and above-average athletic ability. He does a nice job maintaining leverage versus tight ends and separating to the ball. He uses his hands well to maintain position on the edge effectively. He can fold and pursue down the line of scrimmage on plays away or close in space showing short area quickness. He is a powerful tackler with great explosion and hip roll on contact. Hobson has quickness and speed rushing the passer and marked up six sacks with great effort and technique. He is a solid short-zone coverage player as he reads routes well and understands leverage. He can get exposed in man coverage as he does not have great speed and burst off the line of scrimmage. He is best playing on the edge of blockers and rushing the passer as opposed to taking on lineman or playing pass coverage. Hobson plays with a great motor, instincts and toughness which resulted in his best season as a pro. Hobson has played well in the new 3-4 defensive scheme that Eric Mangini has brought to the Jets and should continue to be productive in the coming years.

79-70: Good Starter
Solid starter who is close to being an outstanding player ... Has few weaknesses and will usually win his individual matchup but does not dominate in every game, especially when matched up against the top players in the league.

It's about freakin time. He was one the guys I wanted the Pats to get prior to the start of free agency. I think this is a very good move. The guy knows our system and can play any position on the line. He had a solid year playing in the 3-4 in 2006. I see him playing ILB for us primarily.

Great move. I think someone here pointed out he has short arms, which makes him more of a fit for us at ILB. I suspect that's where he'll be playing.

I hope this is correct.
PFT quoted Shefter, they've never been wrong when they quote reliable sources. Hobson has been good before and is still young. He had good tackle numbers for Mangina especially in 2006 and also had 6 sacks that year. Very solid guy.

To prove himself... would be my guess.

If he plays lights out, there would be no doubt that he gets upped.

Obviously, he was getting little action out on the open market since free agency is pretty much done for prior to the draft. I think he decided that he would be better off taking a one year deal and test the market next year instead of taking what he would consider a low market value deal for his talents.

Hobson > Seward

Let's hope he's more Seau than Besiel. Good thing is that he has experience in the 3-4.

For those who skip to the last page, I added some info to my original post (his website, and scouting report).

Let's hope he's more Seau than Besiel. Good thing is that he has experience in the 3-4.

In 2006, he did have 100 tackles, 6 sacks, and an INT in Mangini's version of Belichick's 3-4. So he is already ahead of Beisel in that area. I think he was miscast in Mangini's defense as an OLB though. He seems to be more suited inside.
