Because his foot's injured. Nobody will even look at him til he can be evaluated and work out.

Would we even know if other teams have brought him in to be evaluated by their medical staff? Some team with lots of cap room who needs some vet. LB experience will probably offer him a little more. Imagine him going to the Chargers? It could happen. I don't want it to, but it could given his 3-4 experience.

If no one has had a serious look at a LB who has shown flashes of brilliance in the past 2 years even at his age I think the injury may even be so bad its maybe career threatening.

Good point I agree. There hasn't been even a peep about any team contacting Colvin.

I'd like nothing more than Colvin to return to the Pats, regardless of what they do in the draft. However, based on his post-release comments, I'm just not sure that will happen.

Yes, we love all our linebackers, we love them until they are 40. We need YOUTH. I love every guy who is a Patriot or was for a long time, but sometimes you have to move on. Is he really going to help us in the long run? I just hate to see the Pats continually sign vets at LB and not get the youth they need.

If you've been watching the Patriots play football this decade, you've been watching older linebackers. This angst over the need for youth is misplaced. Look at the age of Belioli's starters throughout this record breaking dynastic run (youngest age as a starter, beginning in 2001):

Banta-Cain: 26
Colvin: 26
Vrabel: 26
Pfifer: 33
Johnson: 29
Bruschi: 28
Cox: 33
McGinest: 30
Beisel: 27
Brown: 35
Thomas: 30

Age matters, but so does experience. The team needs to add linebackers to the squad, but it's not as if it needs to focus on young linebackers. It needs smart linebackers who can read an offense and can grasp the nuances in a frequently changing defense. I'd love to see the team add speed too, but a fast, clueless, player doesn't get it done. New England doesn't need the defensive version of Bethel in the linebacking corps.

Well, 8 years ago I was 13, and I will admit I was a moron about football until I was about 18, so that first part is certainly true (my moronery even included me hoping we lose a couple games to the bills in 02-03 to show the mistake they made by trading my childhood hero Drew Bledsoe. Hello Patriot Nation, you are looking at a reformed idiot).

You are absolutely correct about experience; I'm not saying we must draft new LBs, but that if we do add free agents, perhaps some younger ones would be helpful.
