is getting alot of love lately, and Mike maylock just pick him for us in his new Mock, with both Long and Gholston gone.

how does this sit with everyone?

This is the one pick I could not handle. I would destroy my TV if they called out Brandon Albert. Then I would go for a walk, start smoking again, come back and wave my Patriot pompoms.

Mayock had him there last week too....about 2 weeks behind me showing a little love. I think thats who we should take if we cant get Long/Gholston/trade down. Hey PONY--gotta tell you your posts have been getting more level headed....dont go POSTAL now!!

He is a pretty safe pick and probably would be less of a cap problem due to his position. I still think we could get him in the teens.

Whether he's worth the #7 pick is clearly debatable but he fits many criteria I look for :

- Is expected to be able to play a high value position (LT)
- Versatile (T and G)
- Major College
- Smart, hard worker
- Belichick aquaintance (Groh) knows him well
- Physical tools for upside

I'd be ok with taking him after a trade down with Carolina or the Bears. The one worry I have with him is his dedication to football. I think he only started playing recently.

I think there are too many spots of need defensively. The more I think about it...

J Long
C Long
Gholston
Ryan
McFadden
Ellis
Dorsey

That's a good group of 7. We pick 7th, so we're guaranteed that one of those will be on the board. That should make a trade down very possible, which I didn't think as much a month or two ago.

So if whoever the Pats want in that group is gone then I think we should trade down, not use a top-10 pick on a guard, which would mean our defensive re-enforcements would be basically from 62 and back.

If his upside is Alan Faneca/S. Hutchinson, then he is worth the 7th pick. Mayock showed some clips on him the other night. Have to admit he looked pretty awesome. I still think our preference is to trade down. But, his pick shouldn't cause anyone to jump off of the bridge. After all, our OL really sucked in Super Bowl XXXXII. And, if you don't think teams are going to come after Brady in 08, you're nuts. The NFL is a copy-cat league. They will seee that the only chance they have is to pressure Brady. We will have to make some adjustments. Adding a stud ol isn't a bad start. Not our most pressing need. But, I could understand his pick. Or R.Clady.

Here is a highlight vid:

To me he looks like a great prospect at guard, but I question his lateral agility to play T. If he can't play T at an elite level, then I can't see drafting him in the top 10. You can read Ross Tucker's article regarding the value of OL positions, posted on the main page, to understand why paying that much money to a guard may not be a good idea.

Albert would be a good addition to the team, but not at 7. He'd be a perfect G for this team though. Some of those clips in the video you posted show why. To be that huge and have that kind of athleticism, there's a great clip around the midway part of him of pulling and clearing out a guy (ironically the play goes for about no gain).
