This was posted over on Football's Future. Please note it WAS a joke (by the linked site, not the poster I've quoted); there should be a hint of that in the text below).

I know it's in French but the basic translation is it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up and the Patriots have been looking at him throughout the 2007 season. It says they offered him 3 years 15 million. It also says that your GM Ed McKeever said he has all the tools to be one of the best linebackers in the NFL. Interesting, oui?

Here's some youtube videos of the guy:

What's scary is that it's not entirely implausible; he's 6'3", 260#. On the videos, he's #8, and boy does he lay some lumber.

Chabal is a beast. Just a great, ferocious player on the field, and actually a surprisingly nice guy off it.

I am French and I grew up watching rugby just about every week end. I do not remember anyone tackling better than this guy. All April fool jokes aside, I would be PUMPED to have him man the MLB position on our team :D

He would surrender 5 minutes into training camp.:bricks:

if hes smart enough and can speak english, i would give him a try.....we need all the help we can get, and BB needs something other then the draft to occupy his mind for a couple of days....

actually, i would LOVE it if he was brought in for a workout, LOL

Chabal wouldn't be bad in NFL, he tends to get a bit confused with the rules in Rugby. Outside Linebacker, he'd be very respectable indeed.Probably wouldn't ask anywhere near 15 million either. Couple of beers,an ox to eat now and again
and a bear to wrestle would probably get the job done.

that would be an entertaining contract to read :D

He plays in england, and have heard him in interviews!!! :D

i was thinking that too, but everything was in french, so not sure...

so now just if hes smart enough, and hes in

GM Ed McKeever was a nice touch.

He almost drafted a dead guy.

You think? Rugby boys are super fit. He's an utter monster of a player.

Plays for my local Union side actually. Well, I say 'local'.

Oh please. Don't be like these guys.

Remind me why I don't take rumors from other boards seriously (Last years Chad Jackson injury rumor notwithstanding).

Some hairy guy makes a couple rugby tackles and we're giving him 5 mil per to play LB? These guys should be ashamed.

Actually, this is a real good draft site and run by a KFFLer I think.

For shame:p

i never said i believed it, and i wouldnt give him 5mil per, but i sure wouldnt mind trying him out

btw, isnt it funny how the French could have used any team, and yet they use the Pats? i wonder what that tells us about the pats in the rest of the non NFL world

"GM Ed McKeever" was the tip-off for me. 3 years/$15M was the clincher. :)

Anyhow, if BB/SP were to give him (or anyone else) a try-out, I say why the heck not?

You mean the fact that they named a GM who hasn't been with the team for 40 years wasn't enough? You're hard to convince.

I think New England should look into him, just as it'd be funny to see something serious come from an April Fools joke.

Check out this hit;

I hope none of you guys are the least bit serious.

I would take him over Monty Beisel though.

(metaphorically. In reality, Beisel would still be 100 times better because he knows how to play football)

That we need linebackers, for one thing.

And that we have a surfeit of gullible messageboard posters these days.

Big difference between "I keek a touchdown" and playing linebacker on the Patriots. He'd be 40 before he learned enough to actually play other than special teams.

I could see coaching up a nose tackle or other freak physical lineman. Bigger upside and less to learn.
