FWIW-let's have some fun with this me being a Cowboys fan and all the Pats fans here...what would BB/Pioli do? My guess is both of our 1st rounders + Terrence Newman(who's in the last year of his deal)? Or would you prefer MB3 instead to re-team with MoFo? And with both the #22 and #28 in your laps now, you guys could draft LBs.

BTW-don't the J-E-T-S have Thomas Jones still?

Source: McFadden Still On Radar

By Rafael Vela

A source I spoke to last night said the Cowboys are still examining a move up to claim Arkansas RB Darren McFadden, should he slip past Oakland at pick four. Jerry Jones yesterday mentioned the prohibitive costs of signing a top five pick but I’ve been told New England and even the Jets at pick six could serve as trade partners. The deal would involve shipping both of Dallas’ number ones in exchange for the highly regarded back.

Have to believe the Pats would jump at the two ones, don't need Terrance Newman, not to say that we wouldn't take him, just that the two ones would be a sufficient deal if that's all the Cowboys were offering.

I think most on here would be happy if we made this trade. With two ones and an extra 3rd we could easily trade back into the top 15 if there was someone the FO wanted.

Hate to say it but I think the Jets would make the trade unless they love Gholston.

Anyway this is probably moot since it sounds like the Raiders are taking him.

PS--why are you disgruntled?

Sold for the two ones. Certianly do not need to toss in anything else.

If you would like our second third rounder as well, then maybe toss in Carpenter.

Otherwise, striaght up, your ones for the 7 spot.

Screw Carpenter. See if we can wiggle out Bradie James in the package.

Is James available? Didn't he start last year?

Yes - he's still on the radar. They are trying to downplay their interest as one would expect.

No one knows HOW interested they are of course - but there was a report in PFT this week where Phil Savage mentioned a concern about a three way trade that focused on Derek Anderson being signed away from them by Dallas - with Dallas sending Anderson and at least one of their picks to Miami in return for the #1 pick which Savage felt they would use on McFadden.

So count Phil Savage as someone who not only thinks that Dallas is interested in McFadden - but someone who thinks they'd use the #1 pick on him.

That's a lot of interest.

Now looking at where McFadden might really go, and how much ammunition Dallas has to move up is pretty intriguing to me as well.

Dallas's two first round picks total 1440 points of draft trade value. The Patriots pick at #7 is valued at 1500 points - which would leave Dallas a bit short of having us as a trade partner for a simple swap of #7 for #22 and #28.

But remember Dallas specifically made a point of saying that they felt high draft picks were overvalued given the higher cost of signing players these days (and they're right) which IMO puts the Patriots in the perfect position as a trading partner, holding a place where McFadden could well be available and with a draft pick value effectively equal to what Dallas has to offer.

It all comes down to what happens in the draft - and do the Pats want to trade up to #5 for Gholston if he's available or trade back with Dallas if McFadden is available at #7.

Where Gholston goes (assuming as I am that he goes higher than McFadden) is the key to everything.

I don't know about you guys, but I would LOVE to have Terrence Newman on my defense. Add to that and 2 first round picks? If McFadden falls into our lap, we'd be crazy not to accept.

So would I, but they would not give up both number 1s and Newman.

Say Newman plus one of the ones, then it is a reasonable deal.

I'd take Newman and the first of the number one picks.

I would not take Newman, even for a third. In our complex soft zone defense I guy like Newman would struggle.

I think McFadden would put Dallas over the top in the NFC. With his speed and receiving ability, he would be the perfect compliment to Barber. On third down, defenses would have to deal with Owens mid to deep, Whitten in the middle and McFadden in the flats, or even on draws or screens. That is a lot of options for Romo. McFadden would thrive behind that huge OL.

If Jones offered his two first rounders for our #7 and our 3rd round pick, I would do it in a heartbest.

OLB Groves - best speed edge rusher in the draft.
CB Cason - best fit for our defense at CB. (I wish he had more quick twitch)
NT Bryant - best pure 3-4 NT in the draft. Run stuffer to help keep Wilfork fresh.
ILB Goff - a much better fit inside in a 3-4 than a 4-3. Can play ST while learning under Bruschi and Thomas.

What a first day haul!

I first registered 2 years ago when Drew Bledsoe was pretty much taking his last snaps as a Dallas starter(after that Philly game where he threw the game away to Lito at the end). Overall-this has been a fun MB to talk about football in general.

Even though Jerry has emphatically stated that he WON'T trade up for McF, I'm kinda having my doubts, especially with MB3 not resigned yet. As livid as I will be if he does this, I will REALLY be livid if he trades with either Miami or the Faiders.

However-if, let's say, he does so with the Pats, it may not bother me much at all.

I don't know if the Pats would offer Newman enough cash so it would be unlikely there.
