Giants show off Super Bowl ring

Here it is, a first look at the Giants’ Super Bowl championship ring, courtesy of the Giants and Giants.com:

As you read here a little while ago, the rings will be made by Tiffany & Co. and will be made of white gold, plenty of diamonds and a design on top that features three Super Bowl trophies – one for each Super Bowl win in Giants history. The design was created with input from co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch, GM Jerry Reese, coach Tom Coughlin, and four players – Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, Amani Toomer and Shaun O’Hara.

As you can see, the ring celebrates their Super Bowl championship on one side, where the Super Bowl XLII logo is engraved underneath the final score. And the other side celebrates one of their proudest achievements with the engraving “Eleven Straight on the Road”. (I suppose I should point out that the NFL officially credits them with 10 straight road wins – seven in the regular season and three in the playoffs. The Super Bowl is technically considered a neutral site game).

And, as expected, the ring is huge.

“There was some discussion about maybe one of the rings was too big,” O’Hara said in a statement released by the Giants. “I threw out the fact that it was a big win, it was a huge win, so the ring should be designed accordingly. Michael said it best when he said he wanted a 10-table ring. I think everybody is going to be very pleased with the design. It is very clean, very classy, but at the same time it is very strong.”

Giants try on 'ten table' rings

There was another incentive for players to come to the start of the Giants’ offseason training program this week: Those that did were fitted for their Super Bowl rings.

The rings are being designed by Tiffany and Co., and the team is expected to release details (and maybe a picture?) later today. From what I hear, they will be either white gold or platinum and a diamond design of three Super Bowl trophies on top. They are also expected to be huge – something Michael Strahan specifically requested when he asked for a “ten table” ring (one that could be seen from 10 tables away).

The Super Bowl champs will be honored by President Bush at a White House ceremony tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 30. An official announcement is expected to be made by the White House soon.

"Eleven straight on the road" ? That's kinda lame.....And i guess the only reason they won was because of Eli, it had nothing to do with the Giants front four or anything...

Who said anything about Eli winning it for them?

Eleven on the Road is quite an accomplishment, but doesn't seem necessary on the ring. I mean if you are the champs, that should be enough. Unless of course, you would've been 19-0 champs.

Hell, what else are they going to say? "Worst team to ever win a Super Bowl"?

Or how about on Tyree's "Lucky SOB"

Oe Eli's "See what 28 Interceptions will get ya?"

Whatever. I hate to see that ring. Really, I freakin' hate it.

Here's a close-up of that 11 straight wins thing.

They're not bad looking. And 11 straight road wins is pretty impressive, I guess. But what's the deal with no colors?

I am not crazy about them having it, of course. But it doesn't turn my stomach like the one made last year with the big horseshoe.

I guess you didn't realize it, but they have three also.

Re: OT: The thread you're gonna love to hate

I could find more for you, if you'd like.

Whatever makes you happy. I'm sure it will be well received.

What a kick in the balls. What a wasted season...:(

For what the Giants accomplished this season, their ring sure is pretty bland by Super Bowl ring standards.

Only 1.5 cts in diamonds too. By comparison, the Pats SB39 rings had just under 5 cts in diamonds. Hell, many of your wives probably have that much bling on their left hand right now.

The two things that got my attention... It needs some color! A little blue would help. The second thing... Why are they revealing it to the media? Maybe it's just the Pats who do it this way, but didn't they see their rings for the first time at Kraft's house? It's somewhat ruining the excitement and emotions of getting your SB ring by giving it to the media before the players. Regardless, I wish it was us.

why would you bring this up...:(

I asked myself the same thing, really no need to see this here.

They should have a picture of a ball sticking to the side of a helmet on the ring.

That was, without a doubt in my mind, the greatest SB play ever, even Pats fans need to admit that. Tyree couldn't do that again on 100 tries....

It seems strangely odd to have "11 straight on the road"...I mean, what's that saying really.."We can't win in our own home" ??

I don't know, the ring seems bland to me compared to others. I am not knocking them, I am genuinely happy for them, but for a SB ring, it is boring.

The other side should read, "Mediocre At Home." And why do they put three Lombardis on there? The first two were won when most of the current roster was in diapers.
