...in between game days, and particularly at the end of the season, it was not a fun carefree ride by any stretch. It felt more like a laborious and taxing perfunctory ride to inevitable victory that would bring contentment and relief rather than euphoria. Ironically, we never got that, and I wish I had just ignored all the spygate BS, all the perfect season crap, all the other distractions, and spent more time enjoying the season for what it was - one of the best played regular seasons in the history of sports.

Wow! you have expressed better than anyone else (and, certainly better than me) how I felt last season from, I would say, the Indy game on. Thank you.

I also share a similar view on the coming season. I go into the 08/09 season without a lot of clarity on how the team will respond to the SB loss, to the offseason Spygate hype and to the loss of Asante, as well as on the lingering questions about the serious failure of Brady's protection in the SB and the inability of the D to protect a lead at the end of the final game two seasons in a row. So, I'm going into this season asking only that the guys come to play every Sunday and ready to accept that things might not turn out like I want. But, I'll be with them 100%, whether it's for another trip to the SB or something less.

I agree - Indy game on was about the switch. As soon as we beat them, the perfect season increasingly became a burden and distraction.

As for your uncertainty about how these guys will react - I'm not worried about that. I've seen a lot of posters pose this question so far this offseason, but think of how they reacted last offseason. For all purposes in the 06 season, the AFCCG vs the Colts was the true Super Bowl, and the Pats faced a heartbreaking, crushing defeat. They came back more focused than ever and almost ran the table. I can only imagine the motivation they feel right now. When you're talking about Brady and BB, you can be sure that they'll focus that motivation.

Good points all......most important is to ENJOY what we are witnessing during this most amazing run with BB & TB.

There will never be another like it in sports.

Right now we are in the middle of a most incredible run. Our team is making history every single day for what will end up being at least an entire decade long if not 15 years or even more. That will be as long as the Celtics dynasty ('56-'69).

Does anybody have any doubt whatsoever that there will be more Superbowl victories coming up? Is there any doubt Randy Moss will see a ring or two come his way. Tedy Bruschi & Rodney Harrison must walk out as champions - how fitting that will be.

Very well put. I have no doubt we'll be competing for the championship every year that Tom Brady is the QB of this team. And we'll probably be favorites every year that Brady AND Moss are on this team.

I don't watch pregame shows, never listen to talk radio except picking and choosing select people who I enjoy from the WEEI/WFAN/ESPN radio interviews posted on their websites (almost 100% players, coaches, or game color analysts), don't read the Boston papers, only read a select few national guys and then only occasionally. The guys doing the talking - callers, hosts, writers know very little of what is really going on so what is the point?

I try to avoid the flamefest threads on this board and cocentrate on ones that have soemthing to say - can't say I always succeed there but never read the Maroney is made of glass thread for example.

I have the Sunday Ticket so when the Pats are on the road or playing Monday night, I watch every game which fills me in on the league much better than ESPN ever could.

Give it a try. It will make the football season more enjoyable.

Ya know...I am going to take your advice here.....I tend to get lost in the "hype" all too often.

I am turning over a new leaf for 2008...."MORE football / LESS hype"

I will stick to the trusted media people that focus on reporting news and not making it.

I have the Sunday Ticket & three DVR's - no reason at all to fill those hours with actual FOOTBALL!!!

Now, now. Let's not give in to hubris again.

If you'll remember back in BB football 101, it's one game at a time.

To assume the rest of the league will tumble like domino's on the way to handing us another SB try is arrogant, at least and damaging to the mind set that got us here the last seven years.

Personally, I'm looking forward to a shiny new athletic defense, or at least some bench progress in that area..
