When Will it end??

This is ridicoulous.. .

Re: When Will it end??

I thought I had read in the past that Belichick/Kraft had long been in favor of the defense having helmet radios. Certain of it, in fact.

The "unnamed executive" can join the ranks of myriad "sources" I've read describing Cameragate, the Pats, and Belichick, in satisfyingly useful terms. When one of these sources is proven to exist (i.e., by being named,) it will carry a great deal more weight. It almost makes you prefer the ones who just came out and said their ignorant anti-Pats comments -- without any discussion of other teams, of course -- and then moved on.

When Will it end??

Only when the full extent of the cheating of other teams is fully vetted will the hypocrisy end.

The media and the public have short memories. Teams break the rules of the game all the time - but in this steroid scandal sports society the NFL desparately wants a scapegoat where they can make believe they've strongly addressed "cheating".

The proof is all there but the hypocrits choose to ignore it.

Whether its the Bears taping playcalling going back to 1955, teams spying on walk throughs in the 60s, Don "the Patriots should have an Asterisk - I would never cheat " Shula cheating as a willing tampering participant (resulting in the loss of his First Round pick) in the 1970s to countless other incidents of salary cap violations and tampering through the 1990s and into 2000 the NFL and the media that depends on them for their paychecks would just as soon make believe these things aren't so routine as to have become a part of the game.

Heck - they can't even "remember" the Dolphins taping snap counts just a few years back nor the Jets illegal game taping just last year. (What was on that tape? No one knows. Goodell wasn't interested in seeing if they were taping signal calls on the sideline).

So the only way to combat the righteous glurge is to make sure its well known that the rest of the NFL is not without sin themselves and should not be casting stones.

Re: When Will it end??

If an executive who supposably likes Belichick makes comments like those, he should have the balls to attach his name to the comments. You know if I liked someone, I wouldn't be calling him out in the press anonymously or not.

Gary Meyer's coverage of Spygate has been sketchy in the past. I think he has an agenda.

He should also know the league is reactionary and always go overboard when something happens. Remember the Roy Williams rule? Creating a whole rule about horse collar tackling because one player was hurting people that way? The Emmitt Smith rule? Because Emmitt took his helmet off after each play, they made a rule stopping everyone from doing it. The re-emphasis of the 5 yard chuck rule because of the Colts complaining about losing the AFC Championships? How is this different?

Of course, Meyers wants to make it like the league never would do anything except the league hates Belichick and that league never overracts to any hot button issue.

Actually I am pretty sure the opposite is true. I think Belchick was against the rule because he rotates players in all the time and the logistics would limit how he rotates players in because there would be times he would want personnel that would require two players with helmet radios on the field and others with none.

Re: When Will it end??

And in the Super Bowl loss to the Giants, he was badly outcoached by Tom Coughlin. One coaching source wonders if Tom Brady played his worst Super Bowl because Belichick didn't have the benefit of the information from video spying.

Wow....

What an absolute douche.

This reads like some random posting on the ESPN message board.

This quote above just sits in the middle of the article. There is no supporting information given and no actual quote from the "coaching source".

Not only is that grossly insulting to BB and Brady, it also deminished what the Giants accomplished.

Re: When Will it end??

It will end when the truth comes out......one thought, maybe this "whistle blower" clause may be the avenue to air the sins of the past from all the other teams which ultimately exonerates or at the very least proves the Patriots were but one of many.

I think three things need to happen at this point:

1) People realize that stealing signals never was the issue, but rather they way in which they were pilfered. Media never did examine the rule & the memo and put out a true timeline. Media never did point out all incidents along the way.

2)The Patriots were not the only ones - and other infractions were far more questionable.

3) The Walsh tapes are exposed for the sham they are.

Then......it ends, problem with all of that, if 1, 2 & 3 were to happen - why wouldn't we at least be given our #1 back??

Re: Next Spygate outbreak?

Of course it could be the ultimate backstabber Ratgini.

In his rush to judgement and haste to "clean up the NFL" Goodell did not do a good job of understanding the context of his initial decision, some of his reaction had to do with the leak of the original films.. if he knew the outcome and had the input of others, his decision may have been different.

I want our number 1 pick back.

It's worth an Andre Cason!!

I agree, that was the worst one of all. And it's not like complaining about it to the Daily News will help...they know the ****** Jets fans will eat it up.

(Yes, I am saying all Jets fans have a brain that is at least mildly ******ed)

What they should do at the meetings is give BB a standing ovation when he enters the room. He deserves it for all the crap he's had to put up with this past season.

Let me tell you now. This team of ours will come back so freakin' pissed off, it's gonna be nuts. If I was one of the teams on the Patriots schedule and was reading this crap, I would be thinking, "Great. A more pissed off, motivated Patriots team."

This kinda crap serves no one, other than the writer and his/her desire for a national read/attention.

I'm glad BB will be there, I hope when some idiot asks about this Spygate BS he unloads the knowledge we ALL know he has on video taping in the NFL. When these owners realize the extent of the issue I bet a lot of people get real quiet.

This article is embarrassing for the Daily News!

Brady did rather well without the 'assistance' of tapes all season long. So well that he broke the TD record and had one of the greatest season a QB has ever had! The Pats lost the SB because the Giants outplayed them...period! Even as badly as the Pats played on offense, they still were 35 seconds away from a WIN!

Bogus NY F'in media!

I agree, he alone has shouldered the "Taping in the NFL" as if he was the sole coach/owner/GM that has ever done it OR the ridiculous story that he invented this practice.

I would imagine that BB is sick of being the whipping boy here, there will come a time if he is pushed far enough he will let it all fly. And everyone from Parcells to Vermil (or anyone who has coached in the NFL) better hope to God that it does not come to that.

If I was a NY newspaper, I would more concerned about a crappy team wearing green uniforms that was also caught taping but not punished. I guess their coached stopped being a genius when all the plays in the lap top he stole became old.

I doubt any of the other coaches, owners, or GM's will give BB a hard time at the meetings, and this writer's already a proven hack.

Belichick hasn't gone to those meetings for at least the past two years, right? So, I would think his going this year could be a good thing.

Myers is a hack, and this article is almost comically bad. You guys would be well-served by not seeking this stuff out and not posting it.

I agree. Mangini and him won't talk, nor Dungy, Norv Turner, and Mike Shannacheat. But besides that, he should be fine. Him and Gruden are friends, as are him and **** Jauron. I believe him and Parcells patched up thier problems; hell even Herm Edwards sort of defended him. If a couple of douchy guys don't want to talk to him, so be it. They can sit at thier lunch table in the corner, and the real men of the NFL can sit at the other ones.

Sorry, I read the Daily News for Knicks news (why bother, right?) and I came across this looking for Lupica's Sunday writing.
