^ haha thats so true. That first part of the sentence was terrible. I could have done better than that in the third grade.

I'd rather have Welker.

Largent caught a lot of balls but I never thought of him as one of the greats.

They aren't remotely close in terms of how they played.

Did Largent have a #1 receiver on the other side of the field that made his life that much easier? I think calling Welker the next Largent is a huge exaggeration at this point.

:eek:Wanna take the homer shades off for a sec?

As a Colts fan, I hardly fit the 'homer' category. I'm also an old man who watched Largent play his whole career. Certainly, he hasn't yet played long enough to be placed along side of Largent but given good health and enough seasons, Welker may well go down as one of the all-time great slot-recievers.
He scares the living hell out of me.

As I've pointed out before, if you ask Moss, I think he'd be the first to point out that the "making life easier" thing works both ways--TD catch #23 happened because the Giants were determined not to let Welker get the first down.

I'm glad to hear that. :D

Welker fills a specific role and he's as good at that as anyone. We also have Randy Moss.

I know some just compare statistics, but for the role we need filled, Wes is just fine.

Man, I like Welker alot, and I really like the way we can use the "cross-rift" of him and Moss.....but to compare a guy with 1 good year created by 2 Hall of Famers(Moss/Brady)to a guy IN the HOF....come on,get real.

But why compare them? because they're white?

Welker has much more in common with Troy Brown than he does Largent.

I wonder if draft analyst will ever compare Tim Tebow when he comes out to a Vick, McNabb or Culpepper. He is white so we might get a Fran Tarkenton comparison

yeah but comparing one year of great football (notice I give due where it is due to Welker) to a HOF WR is ridiculous

Man, what's with the absurd Welker articles lately? This is almost as bad as the Herald's feature piece on how much he likes ice cream (seriously- the communications blackout with that rag has left their football 'reporting' hurting)

Sammy Morris: a modern day Earl Campbell.

I'd start watching c-span if Welker follows Largent's career later in life. I'd love to hear him fillibuster on the floor of the house.

I didn't make that comparison. I said I'd rather have Welker (I would, for what we need. Largent wasn't as spastically elusive as Welker, and that's what we need Wes for. Largent was a great possession receiver, but we don't really need that).

I also said i didn't consider him an all time great when he played (I've been watching football since the early 60's.)

He was a very good, disciplined, reliable possession receiver who was consistent over a long period. There were receivers during his era with less accumulation of statistics I considered great, that defense adjusted for, that made great plays.

I'm making different points than the OP, not agreeing with him.

And every versatile white forward is the next Larry Bird. :)

Was Largent primarily a slot receiver too? If so, the comparison is defensible. Otherwise, not so much.
