The thought kind of blows the mind, after all these years of wanting a LB drafted and some depth at CB it may finally happen.

It is quite plausible to see a scenario where:
Round 1 - LB
Round 2 - CB
Round 3b - TE (of course more TEs)
Round 3 - CB
Round 4 - OL
Round 5 - LB (or given up for Seward)
Round 6 - Who knows, maybe a punter
Round 7 - some slapdick

Maybe throw in 2 OL while you're at it. The middle rounds have a lot of value at OG. We've already addressed depth at CB, but they could go for any combination of 2 of Cason, Thomas, Godrefy, Flowers, Jackson, etc. in rounds 1-3 and I'd be happy w that.

This might come as a shock to some fans, but I believe the Patriots could select a WR somewhere in this years draft.

It could even be one of the bigger (6'2" to 6'5") WR's, too.

I do think they'll select at least two DB's though. Maybe one is a Safety, or they select two CB's, and a Safety, but I think they'll select at least two DB's this year.

At LB they should select at least one LB, and I could easily see them selecting two, but they could add a vet or two before the draft, as well.

I agree with the 2 db picks. With all things staying the same and the pats have their 5 picks in rounds 1-4, at least 2 of those picks will be for db's (one of them may be a safety like J. Adams from Michigan) - odf course all of this is my opinion.

I've not been paying close attention to available WR but are there a lot of extra tall talented WRs who will drift into later rounds?

Usually its the shorter ones who are available.

Well unless a dynamic receiver/returner like Devin Thomas slips all the way to the bottom of round 2, I don't see the Pats drafting a receiver early. Maybe a 3rd rounder on a KR/WR, but not earlier than that.

Eddie Royal, Virginia in round 3, he could handle both punt and kickoffs as a rookie. He is a poor mans Steve Smith.

Even if the Patriots do not get a cornerback or a linebacker

with their first three picks, I would not be surprised if they had to

draft offensive players with their last five picks. Just like last

year, the defensive players will come off the board early.

They've reportedly shown interest in Adarius Bowman, who's 6'2.7" and 223lbs. He's getting projected as going anywhere from the third, to the fifth round.

He started his college career out at North Carolina, but was dismissed from the team after getting cited for Marijuana possession. To shorten a long story, he wasn't actually in "possession" of Marijuana, and the case was later dropped, but he still put himself in a bad situation. Bowman initially continued on at North Carolina as simply a student, but later transfered to Oklahoma State, where he could again play for coach Gunter Brewer, who had already moved on to OSU. Adarius then proceeded to put up 127 receptions, and 2,187 yards in just two seasons at Oklahoma State.

OSU stats:

2006: 13 GP, 60 rec, 1,181 yards, 19.7 YPC, 12 TD's
2007: 11 GP, 67 rec, 1,006 yards, 15.0 YPC, 8 TD's

Coming out of HS Adarius was considered one of the best football players in the country, and was also a state track champion in the triple jump, long jump, high jump, and 4x100 relay.

He's built somewhat like Terrell Owens, in that he's big, muscular, long armed, and lean. He's also very strong, and runs well after the catch. Some other notable qualities: Good hands, hard worker, tough, decent route runner, and also an outstanding blocker. Some scouts believe he could also be a TE, or H-back.

I think we go CB (McKelvin), CB/S (Godfrey), trade our two 3rds for a 2nd and get an ILB (lofton), take a WR/TE/OL with 4th, get seward with 5th,

so how come he's projected so low?

so how come he's projected so low?

The supposed "character concerns", a knee sprain ended his senior season, he had some drops at the Senior Bowl, and didn't time well at the Combine.

The scouting reports I've read seem to think he could be a potential steal. Some additional stats: His 17.6 ypc is second highest among all active players in the NCAA, and 45 of his 67 catches in '07 went for first downs.

They've shown interest in some other big WR's, too:

Limas Sweed (6'4" 215lbs): First rounder, and I doubt the Patriots would select a WR that high.

James Hardy (6'5" 217lbs): projected as going in the first or second round. Again, likely a little to high for the Patriots.

Steve Johnson (6'2" 210lbs): Projected 6th to 7th round pick.

Todd Blythe (6'4" 214lbs): projected 6th to 7th round pick.

QB/WR Josh Johnson (6'3" 213lbs): Projected third or fourth rounder.

Right or wrong, it's 'cause he runs like a lineman.

He doesn't "run like a linemen", go watch him play, and you'll see him putting distance on some pretty fast DB's with his after the catch running ability. Aqib Talib being among those CB's he ran away from. During the 2007 season Scouts Inc called Bowman one of the nations best play makers, and they had him projected as going in the first round.

Bowman simply doesn't time well, and his Combine forty came in at 4.74

Nope. There's plenty of other spots to draft :

- Backup NT
- OT
- OG especially if Neal is out into next year.
- WR
- TE

The "runs like a lineman" line was not intended as a judgment of his play (hyperbole), but you are kidding yourself if you don't think that a WR running in the 4.7s, on two occasions, is not going to kill his draft position.

"Right or wrong," that's how it is.

This is about the kind of draft I expect the Pats to have. The

Pats' 5th round choice will go for Adam Seward. Their 6th and 7th

round choices will be for a cornerback and linebacker who will

find their way to the Jets' roster.

I just said his forty times would likely hurt his draft stock in the previous post. That's part of the reason he's getting projected as going anywhere from the 3rd to 5th round, when earlier in the year Scouts Inc and other sites had him in their top 32 players. In the response to you I was agreeing that he didn't time well, but also wanted to point out that he seems to play faster.

Also, the Patriots seem more interested in how a player actually performed on the football field, so I could see Bowman or some other draft season fallers as being of interest to them. They could end up getting a first or second rounder talent (on the football field) with a 3rd, 4th or even a 5th round pick, because he didn't post good draft season numbers.

It's always a mistake to assign rounds to specific positions. BB will draft according to value (regardless of position). That said, sure we'll draft one CB, and probably two DBs overall, only because of the need for roster competition and the depth of the CB position in this draft.

LB however, may be another story. I'll believe it only when we do draft an ILB, otherwise it's only a possibility -- not a probability. The DE/OLB tweener for me is more likely. Therefore I'll say we'll draft only one LB overall (DE/OLB).

The subject of filling other needs is crucial to consider. A backup NT to spell Wilfork would seem to be a valuable addition. A blocking TE is another. One of the more pressing needs (if I'm playing BB), is a primary KR. Read on...

Maybe a 3rd rounder on a KR/WR, but not earlier than that.

I will agree that a KR will be highly sought after by the Pats. My guess is no earlier than round 3. Royal is one to consider in that round 3 range, along with WR Dexter Jackson (round 3-4). Two other candidates are two of my favorite sleepers -- WR Keenan Burton and CB Terrence Wheatley. Both may be in the round 5 range.

Not much will shock me from this draft, but if we don't come out of it with a new KR -- I'll be extremely surprised.
