In addition to the 49ers, the Patriots, Browns, and Saints are reportedly interested in free agent LB Takeo Spikes.

The Saints can never have enough injury-prone linebackers. The Pats would likely provide Spikes his best chance to start, but may be offering the least money. The Niners are said to be unconcerned about Spikes' balky shoulder.

I dunno how credible of a source the Sac Bee can be but oh well....

Re: T.Spikes update

Seems the 49ers and Cowboys are always interested in everyone I want.

It's also been rumored by other sources that the Patriots are interested, but it's also been reported that Spikes failed his physical in Philly, which had a part in his being released. So, these teams might actually be interested, but they could simply be waiting for him to fully heal from his late December rotator cuff surgery.

See Seau, not alot of people thought he'd work out.....

Re: T.Spikes update

I'm interested in this, but don't we need to stop signing veteran LBs and get some younger guys in there?

ya I agree we do need to add one or two young LB's in the draft but with the holes at the position Spike would be a great pick-up

I have no problem with the Pats picking up Spikes, in fact, I hope they do. I think you are right that he could help plug up the holes. I just don't want them to ignore the need for youth because they sign another vet.

I agree 100% percent with you I just cant see them ignoring the LB position in the draft this year they need to start rebuilding it.

Absolutely.

That said, a guy like Spikes can mentor those youth.

Hell, compared to some of the guys back there, he IS youth.

The Bengals played in a 3-4 under **** LeBeau for Spike's first three seasons in the NFL. Granted LeBeau is a disciple of the Blitzburgh 3-4 defense which is different from ours, but Spikes has had a lot of the same responsibilities he would have in the Pats' 3-4.

I just read that post, and was about to reply with the same info, but decided to click on the second page to see if anyone else had already pointed out the facts.

Sure enough, you beat me to it, lol.

I actually remember some reporter asking Spikes if he was interested in playing in a 34 defense, and if he could make the switch. Spikes then told the reporter he had already played in a 34, and wouldn't mind going back to it at all.

I think this makes the most sense.

Re: T.Spikes update

Maybe the wait on this is all about his injury...I am sure that is a factor...

He played in a 3-4 in Buffalo for a couple years while they experimented with it.

Heard him say that too.
Why hasn't anyone mentioned Bobby Carpenter of Dallas. Costs a #3 and Dallas will move him. 6' 2" and 250 and a 4.62 40. He might be the Boys best ST guy. He can play inside or outside. He lost his chance to start this year when he got hurt in pre-season and couldn't get another shot. Worse case scenario a young upgrade to Izzo that can actually play a few downs? He's young, has the required BB "seasoning" and pretty quick. Dallas has some pretty good LBs. I can see what happened.

Also he is a Parcells drafted LB and they have fit pretty well in this system.

Where did you read that he could be had for a 3rd round pick?
