Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy" [merged]

Re: Watson had Ankle Surgery

That would explain why he was as explosive after the catch as he was in years past. Does Williams get fined everytime he does this?

Re: Watson had Ankle Surgery

Wow, Williams really should be suspended. How many people has he hurt now? Considering what happened to Musa Smith, Watson's is extremely lucky. I still remember Ray Lewis freaking out when he saw Musa's legging flopping around in a way it was not meant to.

Edit: apparently he was suspended for 1 game last year, but it was due to his 3rd (!) horsecollar of the season. It's absolutely ridiculous that he got off so easy. Paging Mr. Goodell, please focus on issues that are actually relevant to the game.

Once or twice is a mistake, but Williams horsecollar antics are more than that. Pissed me off. The game is violent enough without that crap.

Re: Watson had Ankle Surgery

Somebody's gotta pull a Haynesworth on this character..

And people say Rodney is bad. Jesus. When does he get the half year he deserves?

its a violent sport the nfl puts rules into protect the players. without getting into wether roy deserved or not. where does the line cross horse caller...what if someone facemasks really hard....or cut clocks.....
IMO any suspension for on field rules violations is harsh.

EDIT:sometimes neccesary.

I hope we can see him have a year where he is fully healthy and can show what he's capable of.
One question I have is they say he's currently participating in the conditioning program, how could you consider him a question mark for training camp? I would think the only way you'd be questionable for training camp this early is if you couldn't walk, let alone work out.

Williams has established a clear pattern of tackling in a way that causes injury - frequently requiring surgery. That's 3 players (at least) that have undergone surgery because of the way he tackles when he gets beat.

I understand it's a tough game. Hard hits are one thing, snapping legs and tearing up ankles on a regular basis is another because of a very specific tackle that only 1 player really uses is another. It's like he's channeling Alex Gibbs so he can be the sum total of all the cut blocking lines of the last 10 years.

And the NFL sees fit to suspend him - he's been warned repeatedly, knows he's not supposed to do it, and yet he keeps doing it, like a small, violent child.

Re: Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy"

The way Hobbs and Watson played through injury this year has made me appreciate them a lot more. Hopefully the Pats can sign Watson and Wilfork up to long deals soon.

Re: Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy"

It seems to me that a lot of our players were dinged up and we eventually find out as news slowly trickles out.

Re: Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy"

If I needed another reason to be unimpressed with that overrated joke of a pro bowler.

Re: Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy"

I say suspend Williams for however long they suspended Wilfork for for all his cheap shots last year...oh, wait, they never suspended Wilfork either....never mind.....

Roy Williams also took down TO in the Eagle's super bowl year. The Eagles were something like 13-1 and rolling when it happened. TO was clearly the best wide out in the game that year.

i say you take hte the players that were hurt by wilfork and williams, and have had injury, multiply it by 6, and that is the amount of games that the players should be suspended....so lets take a tally

wilfork 0
williams 6

looks about right

Re: Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy"

It was pretty clear, after that horsecollar, that Watson wasn't the same player. IMO Watson, Thomas and Hobbs were all hobbled a lot more than they let on for the better part of last year. When Adalius took that shot to the knee in the Browns' game last year I thought his season was over.

Williams is always horsecollaring people cause he sucks ass and is always beaten in coverage and having to chase people down from the back.

Re: Watson has ankle surgery

I hope this doesn't mean that the FO will be drafting a TE with one of our 4 top-100 picks. Those should be reserved for DBs and LBs, and maybe an OLman.

Unfortunately, BB/SP have never gone two years in a row without drafting a TE within the first 4 rounds, in their quixotic quest to find the next Mark Bavaro. So it looks like we're due for another attempt next month.

Re: Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy"

Hopefully, Watson will be ready for the beginning of the season. As others have mentioned, this does explain why he missed 3 weeks and was less of a factor late in the season.

As for Roy Williams, he was suspended for a game this past season for too many horse-collar tackles.

Re: Watson has ankle surgery

don't remember where i read this, but the report was that ben watson was dragged down by roy williams by (surprise surprise) a horse collar tackle. Man i can't stand roy williams and his horse collar, this guy is terrible in coverage and is always tackling this way b/c he is never in position to make a real tackle. How many players has he hurt this way before he finally got suspended? I believe it was 3-4 players. I hope this guy gets suspended for every horse collar tackle he pulls from now on.
