Not the greatest game. I would have matched them up against the Cowboys.

REDSKINS-GIANTS WILL START THE SEASON
Posted by Mike Florio on March 26, 2008, 6:33 p.m.

Continuing with a tradition that dates all the way back to 2004, the defending Super Bowl champions will host the Thursday night regular-season opener. For the first time, however, the champs will play a division rival.

According to Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post, the Redskins will visit the New York Giants to start the season.

The game typically begins at 8:30 p.m. EDT, but likely will be moved to 7:00 p.m. EDT to avoid a conflict with the final night of the Republican National Convention, which will feature the formal nomination acceptance speech from Senator John McCain.

It’s the second time that the ‘Skins and the Giants will be involved in the Thursday night opener. New York hosted the first such game in 2002, against the 49ers. The next year, the Redskins played the Jets.

Beginning in 2004, the Super Bowl champs got the home game to start the season. That year the Colts visited the Pats. The next season, the Raiders traveled to New England. In 2006, the Steelers hosted the Dolphins. Last year, the Saints visited Indianapolis.

I hope the Redkins kick their A**.Hopefully this would be the start of a very horrible year for the giants.

Do they not have more appealing opponents? Why not Giants/Eagles at least?

Man, that is a boring game.

That's the NFL making sure the Giants play a team they can beat as to not ruin the evening for all the fine bandwagon fans in New York.

NY will go 6-10 next year. Mark it down.

I already did. I guarentee that the Giants superbowl run was a complete fluke. I already ranted about it in an earlier post but the Giants caught the Cowboys and Patriots at the right time. Had the Cowboys not been exposed to any distractions during that week, would have won that game easily against the Giants. As far as the Pats go, it was a weekly distraction for them. With Brady's ankle, Matt Walsh and the chance at perfection turned out to be too much. Once again, the Giants will be mediocre throughout the 2008 season and will be lucky to make the playoffs again. Only this time, they will lose to quality teams such as the Cowboys. In fact, they will get swept by the Cowboys next season (again). The only thing that will vindcate the Patriots from the fluke superbowl loss is if the Giants stink it up next season and lose first round of the playoffs. It would be that much sweeter if the Giants miss the playoffs.

From your lips to Gods ears. The Giants had a horseshoe up their ass for four games; they played a pathetic Tampa Bay, caught the Cowboys at the right time and tried everyway possible to hand the NFCCG to Green Bay, only to have Green Bay had it back.

The Patriots took them lightly, who could blame them after hanging 39 on them in week 17? Despite doing so, it took the refs ingnoring not one, not two, but three holding calls and Tyree making THE greatest catch in NFL history to win the game.

Onr thing to say "DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS"
it still sounds nice

sounds boring to me. they could of found a more interesting matchup, last year was horrible too.

I give the Giants all the credit in the world, I just don't buy them as a power suddenly. I don't give a **** that they won the super bowl. Every team that goes on a "run" never returns. the Ravens haven't done **** since their run, steelers, now the Giants? Beating the Pats was an absolute fluke, but unfortunately it happened because that one important ******* night they outplayed the Pats. I just can't get over it. What a waste of history.

"Do the words SOUR GRAPES mean anything to you??"

Wear your Giants Super Bowl Champions hat and tee shirt with pride; you know, the ones that some kid in South America should be wearing.

Take you gift and be happy, it's ok to admit even YOU thought the Giants didn't have a snowballs chance in Hell of winning and you sh!t your pants when they pulled off the miracle of the century.

Don't be defensive because the whole world knows it was a fluke, noone respects your team and you'll be swearing at Goober all year long as he throws INT's up and down the field.

Defenseless Super Bowl Chumps is more appropriate.

Wow. I don't know where to begin.

Giant fans should be proud of their team. The Giants deserved that Super Bowl victory. They made more plays than the Patriots. Period. No need to be such a douche.

Giants and Redskins...there's a game. That'll be just as exciting as watching the Saints destroy the Colts in the opener last year.

Oh wait.

You all are freakin' harsh. Giants-Redskins is a huge rivalry and oh BTW they both were playoff teams last year. And I guarantee you all will be watching to see NYG go down.

You got me there.

I guarantee that I won't be watching. Nothing really against the Gianst or Skins, just have a hard time watching NFC games that mean nothing to the Pats chances.

And you don't think this is sour grapes? I don't mean to rub it in, but this team did pull off a miracle, but it was through hard work and making the plays when they counted. It was not a fluke or luck. Now, until they do start spitting the bit (which could well happen!, hell its happened before) , how about a little respect for the team that won the Super Bowl...
