Cousins,
I am a little tired of reading draft boards and we still have a month to go. Mel and the rest of the "experts" are driving me nuts. We all know that BB is not a happy camper with draft choices. He is almost George "Allenish" in his moves for vets. He does draft well of course unlike Allen, except for last year. Let's leave it as a bad class.
I just thought this out and all these moves are very possible pending CAP considerations and signing acceptance. They bring us a younger stronger Pats team without the gamble of paying $6.5mm guaranteed for a player who has not hit the Pro field yet. All of these kids are at best, a gamble. Then at the end, I will add one UFA and seven UDFA (symbolic) choices that will be available after round seven by most counts. I say why not? Let's see what you think?
First Round-
Trade our #7 for Ravens LB Suggs? In a minute. The Ravens need a QB plus. This removes some CAP space (not all) and allows them flexibility of the #7 and then the #8 in the first round. We would have to negotiate with Mr. Suggs on a long term deal to make this deal approved by both sides. Why pay $6.5mm to Gholston etc. when Suggs who is proven and only 24 can be workable?
Second Round-
The Saints turned the Giants down for this deal. They offered TE Shockey for a second rounder plus S harper. I would take Shockey over Watson for his play making ability if the other teams load up on Moss and Welker. Who would you rather have in the seem? Who would you trust? Another weapon for TB I say. You and I all know that Thomas will be hurt again. It would cost us S James Sanders and out second rounder? Sanders can be replaced and was not going to stay in the lineup any time soon one would hope. Think how TB would react to this.
Third Round-
Could go two ways. How about WR Ocho Cinco? Yes he is a pain in the ass like is Shockey but look at the production? I was not impressed by Stallworth but like Marshall Faulk said last evening, they will have their second best DB on Welker this year. How about Ocho for our Chad (Jackson)plus our two third rounders at #67 and #94 (the numbers change as per Mr. Goodells' penalties)? CAP considerations are valid here on both teams but if there is a will.....Then our Mr. Chad "Potential" is potentially gone and we have Ocho at #2 WR. Come on! You would love to see him here? TB would like this too.
No Ocho? O.k. Get CB Lito Sheppard from the Eagles for our third rounder and then move the fourth round move below into the third round. Sheppard is only 28 and has played at a high level baring injury.
Fourth Round-
Bobby Carpenter LB. A great pick up for the Pats and the 'Boys will move him. He's only 25, has the experience of a few years under his belt for BB. He is a great ST guy and can actually play a position unlike Izzo. His is 250lbs and fast at 4.62 and can play in our outside. He lost his chance to start last preseason with an injury now healed. Give the Cowboys our fourth rounder and our sixth because they wanted a third rounder and this could work. BC will start here within a year or two ala Vrabel.
Fifth Round-
Karl Paymah CB, the Broncos. Was moving up the depth charts rapidly. He is at least 6' tall and he is a RFA that will cost us a fifth rounder. He will start here. The Broncos have money issues and both Foxworth and Paymah were RFAs. They cannot keep both! I am sure that Kraft would throw in the seventh rounder to old pal Bolen if we get our choice between those two like he did with Welker. Foxworth is faster and has some S experience.

The UFA-We do need LB Takeo Spikes for a couple years. He is a very good addition if he does not break the bank.
At the end of draft day #2 we now own LB Suggs, TE Shockey, WR Ocho Cinco (or CB Sheppard), LB Carpenter and CB Paymah. All are young and can start and play at a high level. Would you trade draft day #1 and #2 for these players? Five sure things I think, and can all be had. Suggs is cheap if you consider what our #7 will cost. The rest have contracts or can be had reasonably we would hope. Now throw in Spikes and a good day was had by all.
And now my seven round list of UDFA that could make this team picked up after "Draft Day":
G/T Jeremey Zuttah-Rutgers. Some say he will be drafted, some not. Very smart BB type disciple. Seen him as high as fourth and then not ranked. Can play G,C, and OT. Would be a lucky Pats steal.
WR/KR/RB Anthony Alridge-Houston-A rocket but small for WR and RB. Some say slot but maybe the fastest KR in the draft. 3rd down dude after Faulk. Over 1,500 yards and 19 TD's in 07.
DE/LE Kroy Biermann-Montana-Great sack numbers (11.5) with speed to play OLB. Buch Buchanan Award winner. Best 225 Bench of all LBs (29). Top ten in vertical and three cone of all LB's. 4.63 40.
ILB-J. Leman-Illinois- A tackling machine and very cerebral. Has an ankle surgery that is healing from the Rose Bowl 6" 2" 245.First team all Big Ten.
CB Derrick Huff-Eastern Kentucky. Was at the top of all of the NCAA in interceptions and PBU (I think a valuable statistic). Overlooked. Runs in the 4.53 area and is 5' 11" and 193 lbs anyway. FCS All American. Led the nation in interceptions.
FS Brian Bonner-TCU-Very smooth in coverage. Twists his hips like a CB. Was a team leader, Smart and return punts with good success. Versatile. Could play nickel back.
SS Jordan Senn-Portland State- 4.55 speed at LB and 224 lbs. Very good in coverage. Smart and loves to hit. 75 tackles, 7.5 for losses, 2 sack, 2 interceptions and 3 PBU.
Who knows on any potential UDFA? Just a thought above.
