Pats show interest in two more CB prospects...

Since I really like Cason, Flowers, and Jackson, please refrain from trying to keep one or two of them off the Patriots 2008 NFL roster, devil women!:D

Please forgive me for laying the touch of death on your binkies.

No, I don't think DRC will last into the third round. He probably won't last to the second round. Mike Mamula went sixth or seventh one year. There will always be somebody who falls in love with athleticism. I just don't know why people think that all of the sudden Belichick is going to be one of them.

I don't understand your point about Gholston. Do you think I'd advocate him because of what he did at the Combine? I wouldn't care if he ran a 4.8 and had a 20 inch vertical. I watched him terrorize the Big 10 for two seasons. I watched Cason and Flowers shut down opposing WRs, which is why I don't care what Flowers ran. I watched Chris Long dominate every offensive lineman he went up against.

What is DRC being evaluated on? And would he be a first round possibility if his name was Dominique Rodgers, as it was back in September?

Those are rhetorical questions. You've answered them before. And my feelings on the subject are also well known, so I'll try once again not to get pulled into the DRC threads.

DRYHEAT,
How have you been. I wouldn't spend too much time arguing with a fan whose personal liking for a player clouds their judgement on who is best for this team and who the Patriots really like.
I told you that the Pats were "In Love" with Cason after the combine before all the reports of their interest came out. I said it then and I'll say it again the Pats are not big fans of DRC at this stage and it has alot to do what's upstairs. If people want to argue with you about who's the best corner and they say DRC is the best, then let them talk because no respectable scout would put there career on the line to say DRC is a guaranteed super star shut down corner. Nobody that I talked with feels this period. Also, watch for Thomas at SC as well. DRC will not be picked by the Patriots at #7 nor will he be picked that high anyway.

I am well, thank you.

Tell me, my latest mock has the Pats coming away with Groves (trade down), Cason (trade up), Goff, and Demps.

How does that square with your thinking?

Let's be honest here the Patriots will NOT take a corner at #7. It's basically the same money that Asante got from Philly. Also, I do believe that they like Cason, as do I. He was the best corner going into the year. I was on the DRC bandwagon for awhile, but that makes zero cents. In order for them to get Cason they have to move up in round 2. It's will be diffcult to trade out of #7. I just pray we don't draft Derrick Harvey. Also, don't be shocked if McFadden is taken at #7 if they can't trade the pick and he is still there.

I saw this and I think it would be a Great start to the draft but if the Patriots pulled of this type of first day with Groves and Cason they wouldn't start day 2 with Goff from what I hear they will be addressing the O-Line in the first 3 rounds if they don't add depth before then. Goff I like but if they get a pass-rush DE/OLB in the 1st they will look at a coverage ILB later in the draft to groom and play on 3rd down next to AD. So you would have Groves, Vrabel on the outside with AD and Rookie or Seau on the inside on 3rd downs. Think in terms of Stanford Kegler who's a good coverage linebacker in the 5th round or so. Here's a sleeper if he checks out medically to replace Tedy in a year or two Jeremy Leman-Illinois. This kid is very intelligent with good mean streak who loves contact. He could be a very good lunch pale ILB in the 6th round or so.

Demps, I like alot infact according to his brother Will, Quintin is alot better than him and will surprise some people and Will is pretty good. But, In your scenerio they get their Top corner and assuming they haven't added another CB/S before the draft and that means Meriweather will compete for FS with Sanders with some extra depth added already so if they go safety in this draft and I believe they will look for players later that could be potential FS/SS Combos and also add good value. Like: Marcus Griffin-Texas, Simeon Castille-Alabama, Husain Abdullah-Wazzu, my favorite Thomas DeCoud-Cal and my sleeper who not many people are talking about Bobbie Williams-Bethune-Cookman. Bobbie is a good kid who's a good athlete for special teams, can hit hard, has good instincts and ball skills. This kid would be a 6-7th rounder who could be a steal for some team.

From what I'm hearing Cason is going to be a 1st rounder, I can almost guarantee it. The more teams visit this kid the more they like him. So a Groves-Cason combo is growing more and more unlikely. Too bad they don't have 31 actually. Watch to see if the Pats address either LB or CB before the draft and it will give an indication on what they feel and hear is coming down the pipeline. Unfortunatly, I see a move coming before the draft here.

I believe there will be a surprise pick in the 1st 4 rounds, at least to some. That's why I keep saying where are the WR's in these mocks.

I like your thinking though, great work.

I'm actually starting to get worried now that a number of other Pats fans seem to like the same guys I've been talking about for months (Cason, Groves, Goff, C. Jackson). See, I've been somewhat in the minority the past 2-3 years when it comes to the players I like the most for NE, and that's actually worked out quite well for me.

So, either my streaks going to come to an end, or a lot of us will be correct, which isn't usual....

every team needs a tall man-to-man cover corner, even if we like to play zone more you cant play zone all game. You need that one guy that you can line up against another teams #1 WR and shut him down. Have you seen how many tall big WRs are in the league these days? Does Hobbs covering Plaxico ring a bell? DRC is a no brainer, hes the kind of #1 corner you build your secondary around.

Oh, get over yourself Sebastian. Some of us want to share in the glory too. ;)

Antoine Cason
Brandon Flowers
Chevis Jackson
Jack Williams
Terence Wheatley

Please note that I have never, ever correctly predicted a Pats DB selection. I am not to be trusted.

Thanks a lot. :( Those are my top 5 CBs. Get invited to many parties do ya? ;)

That's interesting, because at the time I took Demps, the highest-rated guy on my board was Earl Bennett (followed by Demps and Eddie Royal). I opted for Demps because of his return ability.

Williams will not be around in round 4 nor in round 3. I can promise you that. How do I know, well he is my brother for one thing and you look closely at his #'s they are 1st round numbers across the board from the stats to the testing, Will he go first round? No only because he played at Kent St. I can see him going very early in the 2nd though. There is no gambling with taking Williams.

You will get a PLAYER with experience and a stat package to go with it. This is an immediate contributor. No need to teach schemes, understands them all and can play them all. Only two others had close to his production, Cason and Porter. He can play the nickel now and compete for the starting corner spot immediately. He can also return kicks since he has low mileage in that department. Jack Williams has never failed at being a successful football player on ANY level.. NFL will be his opportunity to show those around him that he can KICK ASS regardless of what school he came from... NO character issues with him. No girlfriends , no nothing. His only mistress is football. He will not be a holdout. His current agent already reps Ellis Hobbs....But HE will not be there in ladder rounds. too many people know about his abilities and everyone is being real HUSH HUSH about it...

If you really are his brother, are you John?

Just read Jack's Q&A which has this:
Luke Nicholson: Are scouts planning to work you out at free safety, as well as cornerback? How do you feel about the possibility of a position change?
Jack Williams: I don’t know if the scouts plan on working me out at FS but I would change positions in a heart beat if that’s what I had to do to make a club and be successful in the NFL.
and this
Luke Nicholson: What are your plans for your career after football?
Jack Williams: Right now I’m just focusing on my football career. Sorry.
Hard not to like this guy. He sure does sound a Patriot.

Cason played in the Pac-10, and had more tackles, PBU's, and INT's than Jack.
Porter played in the Big Ten and had more PBU's, and INT's.

I don't know Jack's metrics (I'll look them up later), but I know Cason had one of the best success rates and YPA.

Also, I hope he put on some weight, as he was pretty thin at their Pro Day.
