Wanted a clear consensus of our board’s feelings on the most powerful man in the NFL right now.

The one thing I did respect about the SpyGate handling was the fact he never made a public statement saying BB had been taping since 2000. He could have easily done so causing even more questions about the legacy all season long.

Not until Specter was that information confirmed.

Then again I don’t condone just about everything else he’s done in terms of this whole fiasco…

I think he handled our situation as best he could and he's punished others that have been in trouble with the law. We were clearly filming what we were told we couldn't film, and were punished for it.

I do think that he comes down with a heavy hand, but I guess you have to sometimes, especially when you want to set an example. I think he's been harsher with Pac Man Jones than he has been with us. It actually seems like he is trying to soften the blow he laid on us in September.

He has been unfair in many regards...FIRSTLY he could have clarified his stance on why the punishment was so great and chose to say nothing..this led to more questions..not less...Since then, he has talked about being fair but acting far from it...He screwed up with the way he handled it and does not want to hurt the league more if the truth about many practices came out...very poor performance..

I just think he is incompotent.

He is both biased and incompetent. By the way when are we going to find out who sent the Pats tape to FOX TV.

The same time we will find out about his investigation of officials in the NE-INdy game...

it's amazing how NE fans of all people could be against him

he's protecting the pats from walsh, or at least trying to (because he's protecting the nfl, all of his decisions are done to protect the nfl from itself, and keep it's #1 spot)

I am figuring about the 12th of Never on that one.

As a commissioner you must understand that it's human nature to revert to mob rule and injustice so you must be right down the middle. To this point, Goodell has been much too harsh with handing out penalties and suspensions. As with the lengthy player suspensions, the "spygate" penalty was just too harsh which in turn brought undue outrage from all angles. He has made public a matter which should have been handled in house and that my friends is never good. The NFL has big financial hurdles to cross over the next two years and could be facing a lockout, which will cause bad press. So it could be a continuation of bad press for the league. The "spygate" drama though was clearly due to the how the new commissioner handled it and wasn't a good way to start off a new era.

I find it funny that the only team Goodell has been harsh with is the Pats. Everything else has been swept under the rug ASAP. When is he going to release the findings of who leaked the Pats tape to Fox. LOL

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Here is why I think he is incompetet. He thinks he is protecting the pats and the NFL but all he is really just hanging them out to dry. If he was protecting the pats he would give Walsh an ultimatium and deadline. If he didn't come through by the deadline, declare the matter investigated and closed. Handling it this way does nothing but allow everyone to consider the Pats guilty in the court of public opinion. Your own post shows this as you assume the NFL is "protecting" the pats as if they need protection from anything Walsh has.

The man might be a good lawyer and administrator, but as far as handling a high profile organization like the NFL he is way over his head.

I think he's both incompetent and a blowhard jerk. Basically, I dislike him in every capacity that I can dislike someone that I've never actually met.

I totally agree. Goodell has had his work cut out for him early on and it doesn't help having a grandstanding senator sticking his nose into it all. He's said the same thing since this spygate crap started - he punished the Pats, the issue is dead. Now all the Matt Walsh stuff... I think he's done as well as he could've done.

Then he didn't handle it well.
If he handled as best he could, there would be no need to soften any blow or backtrack.

I don't know how you could possibly say that he's done as well as he could've done with any of it. It has been and continues to be a total mess. From the media prespective both spygate I and II have been botched.

he's really messed this up on every level at every turn....he SHOULD have handled this in house and never turned it into the public spectacle that it became...NEVER sgould have given out such a heavy penalty without explaining it all...going forward he shouldn't have said he was going to be so fair about things, for he has demonstrated the opposite totally..ignoring so many other practices that are ubfir..from tampering to piped in audio to the communications blackout over ride that some teams do. He's basically not recovered from that and looks even sillier with Spector and Walsh... I can not believe how he was voted MOST powerful in sports (after a short run..) ..only that maybe that made his slighty HEAD slightly bigger and more pompous...(if that could be possible..) Correcting the mess now is really hard..can't get the toothpaste back in the tube... Until he actually takes action against another team, it's all UNFAIR...he talks a good game, of fairness..bit that is all..most incompetent idiot to be the head of any league.. Mu hope is he will go down in flames fast before he destroys the league..
