It very well could be someone that none of us predicted.

I wouldn't doubt that for a second.

Could be another player.

Could be a trade down for multiple picks.

Reiss made a good point on why they won't take a CB with the 7th pick.
He said that, if they truly wanted to pay a corner that kind of money they would have worked out a deal with Asante, instead of paying a unproven player.

I don't see them using that pick if both Chris Long and Vernon Gholston are gone, they will probably trade down for multiple picks.

Man that'd be something if Long/Gholston were still there...

Damn Jets...

I don't think that's possible, as nearly every angle has been predicted, ranging from LB to OL to CB to even RB. There aren't 100 players to pick from like at the 32 spot, there's only about 15 at the very most.

Has anybody figured maybe we trade up for J.Long/C.Long/Gholston? I mean, we usually cut a bunch of draft picks anyways... why not just ensure we get the guy we really want in the first (if we really want one of them)?

Id be thrilled if we landed one of those guys, but if none were available Id take Dorsey in a heartbeat.

That is the key question.
Who does BB & SP feel are good for the Pats, not whoever all these draft nerds have a little stiffy for at the moment.

Im realizing that #7 slot is such a 'fringe' spot. Meaning that its about the cutoff point between getting one of the elite players that are likely only to be taken in the top 5, vs a player that could easily fall into the 20s, or even possibly into the 2nd round.

With the Pats loading up on veteran corners here recently, the last thing Id expect them to do is take a CB in the actual #7 hole. They may trade down to 15 or 20 or where ever and take a corner in that position. But I definitely do not see a corner getting drafted by this team at 7. I think theyre obviously either trading down or even up, or theyre taking a lineman or backer. Im not putting it past the team to draft a Oguard/tackle to possibly take over at RG this upcoming season, and move to RT in Kasczur's spot eventually. If the best laid plans for adding one of the impact players falls apart, and no trades are available, I fully expect them to fall back on the somewhat 'safe' drafting strategy that has led to so much success. Draft a big guy to play line on either side of the ball, and put him out there in the starting lineup from day 1. Clady or Otah may end up being the pick.

Could even be a trade up to leapfrog around the Jets to grab a guy before MangIdiot grabs.

I'd expect that to be a hot rumor leading up to the draft... if only to prompt MangIdiot to do the same thing and leapfrog to #4.

Belichick has a way of getting the Jets to do stupid things in the draft. I seem to recall him prompting them to use two 1st round draft picks to move up to #4 a few years back. I don't think that guy worked out all that well for them.

Fellers,

this is the first time in many many years that I have absolutely no clue as to where the Pats will go in the draft. I've looked at all the options available and I cannot say with any conviction what they'll dp. Heck, they might even trade up and take a QB... that's how weird this year is.

Certainly I'd loke to (personally) see them take Chris Long. I think he'd be an excellent fit in here, but there are also so many others .

The big problem with any picks this year is that, despite personal favourites we all have, there really aren't that many folks who are worth the kind of money that top-10 picks have been demanding. I think that there really needs to be a cap in place for rookie contracts, at least for first-round. There have been so many big-money busts from the top ten.

This year I am just going to sit back and watch the show. Like I said, this time around I am really stumped because there are just so many scenarios that all would make sense. Sigh.....

TAMPA - Early Wednesday afternoon, University of South Florida secondary coach Troy Douglas received a call from cornerback Trae Williams.

He needed someone to unlock the gate so Williams and fellow future NFL draft pick Mike Jenkins could use USF's practice fields.

Waiting on Douglas were the two former USF teammates along with another guy wearing a green St. Louis Cardinals hat, sandals, shorts and a T-shirt. A guy named Bill Belichick.

The New England Patriots coach came to Tampa to get a first-hand look at Jenkins and Williams. The Patriots have the seventh pick in next month's NFL draft and Jenkins could be targeted for that spot.

"You don't send the head coach down unless you're pretty serious," Douglas said.

Belichick threw passes to the players and had them participate in a variety of drills during the personal workout. Belichick also watched film of last year's USF-Louisville contest, quizzing Jenkins and Williams on the responsibilities of each defender.

Jenkins has been projected by most mock drafts as being the first first-round draft pick in USF history.

"Mike will go in the first round," Douglas said. "I just don't know where."

I don't know who or if we will even pick at #7. If BB is working out these two guys, the USF coach could be right. Are either of these guys worth the 7th pick in the draft? BB stops by the Florida campus every year so it might mean nothing.

Ellis from USC. Wilforks deal is almost up, let them play together for a year inside, over and under tech. tackles. Then you have your 2 gap nose replacement for the future. You replace a player or resign a player before you need to if you want to keep him.

Long is a great player. Where does he "fit" on our team?

I forgot to add that, you are right. Could trade up. Might not be a bad idea either. Drew said that the Pats cut alot of draft picks anyways (which is true). Might not be a bad choice.

Anything might happen.

I really never heard of Logan Mankins before he was drafted.

It was a late 1st round pick (like this years should have been).

VERNON GHOLSTON.......POINT BLANK:rocker:

If there Gholston is the man. If no Gholston, Long(s), or Dorsey, I think we trade down, even for half price.

I really do NOT know what they will do...and I REALLY think this year it's a LOT harder...I could see them moving up to get a player..or as well trading down...It will be interesting to see what happens in those first 6 picks...

Or last year, spending extra draft picks to grab Revis ahead of the pats since CB was a need for them

I take back everything that I've said previously! The Patriots will absolutely, positevly select CB Mike Jenkins from South Florida at #7. Bank on it.

People shouldn't get too hopeful on Gholston. Besides the fact he may not be at #7, if he is there we have no idea how he is coverage (as an OLB) as his college career has been hand down. I'm not saying he can't do it, the guy is gifted enough, but the question still remains and for the #7 pick do you take that risk? I'm glad I don't have to make that decision.

I think you're likely wrong, and that he's not worth that high of a pick, but we'll see.

Also, they worked out both Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams. Knowing the Patriots, they could be interested in both, but think Williams could be the better value, as he'll likely go in the late third-fourth range.
