I'm still having a tough time keeping up with NFL news as much as I usually do since that awful ending to the season, but there is one upside after the offseason so far... the Jets.

The moves they have made this offseason (and as far back as last year actually) are just atrocious, and I think I'd have to kill myself if I was a Jets fan. Mangini and Tannenbaum are driving this team into the ground.

So bank on two more easy wins next year and a surefire top 10 pick for the Jets. Their classy fans deserve it.

Gotta agree with you there... combine that with the very questionable Revis picak and the terrible deal, and you are hurtin in J... E.... T.... S.... land.

i dont see it that way....

i think next year the jets will be good, quite good
i expect the pats to beat them twice, but defenetely not easy wins....

however, in 3 yrs, the jets will be the worst team in the league

Thats what I was saying, they have improved, sold their soul, and it will get them to 9-7 maybe. Rome wasn't built in an offseason.

I really really hope you are right. :)

I can see the Jets right anywhere from 6 to 9 wins. Last year's 49ers and the Redskins most of the years they have been owned by Daniel Snyder has shown us that buying high priced free agents doesn't mean you are going to field a competitive team.

I look at every offseason acquisition for the Jets to have a question mark.

Can Kris Jenkins stay focused, happy, and healthy? Can he make the transition to NT in a 3-4? He supposably liked the nightlife in a small town like Charlotte, what is going to do in NYC?

Was Calvin Pace a contract year one year wonder? Was he even all that good even last year to be relied on as the Jets' stud pass rusher if they don't get a Vernon Gholston in the draft? Do the Jets have enough pass rushers to have Pace not neutralized by a double team?

Is perenial underachiever Damien Woody their answer at RT? Is 4-5 good games at RT last year enough of test case to show that he can make the permanent transition to that spot?

How much does Alan Faneca have left? Will Nick Mangold and D'Brickishaw Ferguson return to their solid rookie forms with him there or were their rookie seasons flukes? Wasn't Ferguson's rookie season one of the most overrated season of 2006 anyway (he was personally responsible for 10 sacks that season)?

At age 36, what does Tony Richardson have left? How about Bubba Franks? With a potent offense of the Packers, he wasn't much of a threat.

And the biggest question of all: Who is going to be their QB? And a related question: Are either Kellen Clemmens or Chad Pennington the answer?

Sorry, I know a lot of people love their moves. I question a lot of them. I wanted the Pats to get Pace, but I thought he would be a value free agent without a huge price tag and never expected him to be the premiere pass rusher on this team. I would have said he was a good complimentary piece, but he is their Mike Vrabel. Faneca was a good move even if he was expensive. Other than that, their moves have been unimpressive to me.

It all comes down to this and they are screwed either way if they have to count on either to make the playoffs.

I'm just looking forward to the draft when NYJ fans will predictably boo whoever MangIdiot picks... interestingly with the new NFL contest whereby one fan from each team gets to announce the pick, I guess they'll be booing a fellow fan

Seems like Goodell didn't want to put himself in that position again!

(by the way, speaking of the draft, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Patriots actually move UP to grab a player they like before the Jets)

I can't help but wonder if the Jets are setting themselves up to pick Matt Ryan if he's there at #6. Clemens is not the answer (perhaps he should try HGH), nor is Pennington, obviously. They can't give up on D'Brick yet at LT. However, they've bolstered LG with Faneca. Mangold is looking solid. They signed Woody for the RG spot. RBs can be had later and I don't think Run DMC will be as valuable after emulating Reggie Bush on and off the field. They have a solid, if unspectacular receiving corps.

They've added Kris Jenkins and Calvin Pace to the D, which already had Revis and Harris. DBs can be had in later rounds, anyway. Ellis or Dorsey would be great for them also, but they need O WAYYY more than D, and QB is the absolute key, as we all know. I'm guessing Matt Ryan at #6. If not him, then they'll go with JD Booty or Chad Henne in Round 2.

Yea we were so dumb for trading our entire draft for Revis and Harris:rolleyes:

2 wins? We won 4 with a hell of a lot of holes and sub par talent at many key spots. So in your estimation adding Faneca, Woody, Jenkins, Pace, Richardson(made the pro bowl last yr so dont bring up age), and Franks have subtracted two losses from our potential. I love this offseason, we got aggressive and filled our wholes with guys who can play instead of JAG's like last year (Wadsworth, Haynes, Clarke:mad:).If you want to talk about the Pace deal go right ahead but the Faneca deal is a solid contract when everyone and there mother knows he wont see the final two years of that contract. jenkins got signed for 5 yrs at 30 mil with a 9 mil signing bonus. Granted he has never played in the 3-4 but we traded a 3rd and 5th rounder for a guy who has pro bowl ability, how is that a bad move? Many objectional Pats fans will see this as a successful offseason but there still are many ?'s such as Pace being Thomas 2.0, QB position, Jenkins in the 3-4 (IMO at worst he is an upgrade over Robertson and I think he can be a good player for many years). Woody's deal is a little bit much but its still not a cap killer. I think were an 8-8 ball club right now and I waiver from 7-9 to 10-6. Just my .02. I try not to be a homer but I dont know how were a worst team then last year, its really not even close when you look at the current state of our new and improved running game

What prompts that response? They have a good amount of young talent and the new regime has shown they are good at locating talent in the draft

Jets fans have yet to boo a Tangini draft pick yet. The draft is where they shine:)

If you read the CHFF analysis of the Jets, it doesn't look bad at all. They have a number of "Blue Chip" players throughout the roster. Revis and Harris were tremendous additions for them last year. They just lack the explosive playmakers that come primarily at the top of the draft, or attracted though free agency by having a talented QB. Right now the primary difference between the Pats and the rest of the AFCE is (drumroll please) Tom Brady. Until the competition overcomes that vast disparity, they'll compete solely for the silver in the Division. That's why I'm thinking Ryan at #6. He's a winner. JMHO.

You hit the nail on the head but I really can not see Ryan to be honest. I think they would go Gholston before Ryan. I myself am leaning more Gholston then McFadden b/c were only going to beat the Pats ever w/ A) A great franchise QB with good supporting cast or B) Great D with above average QB not really a franchise guy (Jeff Garcia type). I think we can take a huge step towards B if we take Gholston and have a core on D of Harris, Pace, Gholston, Jenkins, Revis, and Rhodes. That defense to me is another LB and impact linemen from being scary. If we went the Ryan route however, I cant say that would not have me excited tho. Im done w/ Pennington and I guess maybe (emphasis on maybe) Clemens can be an average to above average passer. On a side note, I think there is nothing wrong going with a solid efficient passer as your QB when building a SB caliber team

mangenious, good points. Gholston is going to be a beast, so he'll help immediately. McFadden concerns me because of his thin legs and lack of leg drive. He'll need to survive initial contact in the NFL. He's been compared to AP, but c'mon, AP is a once in a generation type of back. His off-field issues are a big "?" at this time, as well. The Jets would have to get Booty or Henne in Round 2, though. Gholston and Booty would be a nice haul to complete Day 1 (Round 3 is on Day 2 this year, right?). Both are accustomed to winning. BTW, I much prefer talking actual football to the "Border War" trash talk promulgated by the irrelevant soap opera that is the current state of Pats/Jets. This is why I love the sport.

I will laugh at Revis. Check out his success rate and other metrics... he might have been one of the worst CB's in the league last year that actually started. I know he's a rookie, but dang, I'm glad we're not paying him 30 million plus.

Harris is another thing, he is an absolute tackling machine, and was a good pick.

I want to see these stats so I know not to ever pay attention to them. Revis was a top 5 defensive rookie last year garnering high praises from everyone and if you saw him play you could ee that the kid can play. Im being unbiased as can be when I say he is a future pro bowler in the making, he had a good year playing against the best WR's in the NFL including Moss, Chad Johnson, B-Edwards, Evans, Ward, Plax, and T.O. If you honestly believe he was one of the worst corners in the league, more power to you

Im not to high on any of the QB's in this years draft. I have seen Flacco play in perso and he is just so raw that he s going to need a lot of coaching to fix his mechanical flaws to go with his average ta best pocket presence. My dream draft is a mixture of Gholston 1 and WR James Hardy or Kentwan Balmer w/ our second pick. The ?'s with McFadden have me concerned as well but he really is too good a prospect to pass on if he''s there at 6. IMO he can not be compared to reggie bush b/c their styles are completely different, he can take the majority of the carries, and he ripped up the best conference in college compared to Bush who played against garbage Pac 10 D's. As much as I hate Pennington, if you give him a solid o-line a good running game and solid WR's (all of which I think we have) I think he can be efficient. Side note, its actually great to have intelligent talk w/ Pats fans on football on each others team and disagree respectfully w/o name calling.

I thought Revis had a pretty good rookie season, but let's not go overboard. He covered well at times, but still got burnt for a lot of big plays too. He will probably get better especially if the Jets front seven get significantly better but he is no lock to ever sniff the Super Bowl.

What he did vs. Moss was irrelevant since he and every other Jets defender got burnt badly against him in the opening game (Moss got 183 yards and a TD) and the second game was in the middle of a N'orEaster (even still, Moss had 5 catches for 79 yards) .

Revis is definitely not one of the worst CB in the league, but he is not as good as you seem to think he is. He had a good rookie season, but has a long way to go before he is considered among the best CBs in the league.
