I should re-word as early second round as the latest. Which is picks 32-42 (top 1/3rd.)

That would be a great draft, BTW, IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, (don't have my notes), he's the 7th CB taken. It seems possible to me that he'd be there at 49. We talk about him quite a bit, but I don't think he enjoys such support from other fanbases.

Me likey except for the Demps pick. Assuming Meriweather stays at safety (I wouldn't assume a move to CB would be successful), how many do we need? Particularly when #76 is a prime place to catch a slipping CB after all the other teams have gorged themselves on the position. Some of the following will likely be around at that point in the draft:

Branden Flowers
Chevis Jackson
Terrell Thomas
Zach Bowman
Dwight Lowery
Trae Williams

I know the Pats can't possibly like all these guys, but I would figure at least one of them would make their draft board. So dump Demps and pour me a Chevis and you got yourself a deal...

But I tend to believe the Jets will draft McFadden if he is sitting there and that will leave Ryan at our doorstep. With that being said, our previous history and relationship with Chicago, I see a deal being made with them or Carolina.

He'll likely get better as he developes, but his 2007 performance shouldn't be among the reasons listed for giving a rookie CB a $36M contract.

On a side note, Lito Sheppard (who some Pats fans have shown interest in) was also among the CB's with the worst success rates, and Michael Huff (who's been discussed on this board) gave up the most yards per pass (10.8), which is probably among the main factors behind the Raiders wanting to unload him. On the flip side, Richard Marshall (who was among my favorite prospects for NE in 2006) posted one of the best success rates in the league.

Only using Reevis because of the spot he was drafted in.. but Lets be honest, If revis played for the pats, his stats would have been better.. the lack of pass rush hurt that team big time.. Plus reevis looked a lot more comfortable as the season went on.. he's a player..


Sheppard, as I read, he wants a new contract.. I woudn't see the pats giving up a draft pick and money for him..

Personally i'd rather have Huff than Sheppard.. but nothing for big money or any high draft picks.. Just the fact he's been on a crappy team..

I can't see the Pats drafting Groves... even at 15, 20, or 30 for that matter. He just doesn't fit the Patriots mold mentally. It doesn't seem like he would cut off his finger to get back in the game (or his toe). Rodney et al would.

I must have him confused with some other Quentin Groves. I thought that the one down in Auburn came back and played this year after dislocating 3 toes.

Plus he graduated from Auburn in three years. But, I guess an intelligent player, who also played through injury doesn't meet the Patriots overall mental standards...

The only concern I have with Groves is his playing weight. I heard he was down to 249 lbs for his pro day, which seems a bit lightweight for our OLBs. If he plays at his combine weight, and moves as efficiently, I'm sold.

DH, I gotta say thats the worst trade I have seen for our #7 pick. I think if you got Detroits 2nd it would be a bit better(according to the chart), or maybe 2nd AND 3rd in 09.....And I just dont see us using 2 high picks on LBs even if one is a ILB and one a OLB. The amount of time to teach ONE rookie the system would be considerable,hence our LB drafting history. I think Oakland is moving for Gholston too, and I see KC trading down....But I think you are on the right track...
